Default Updates crash system

Ever since updating to version 8.0.059, I've noticed that ZASS slows my system to a crawl whenever it updates with the white arrow showing in the lower right corner.
To get it back to normal, I have to log off and shut down -- if it will let me.
If it won't let me, I just shut down anyway.
Anyone know what is going on?

maybe a bad install??
I run ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:8.0.059.000 onmy XP Pro

SP3 /
768 ram with no problems....
But it seems
from the posts here some do have problems even after uninstall/reinstall of 8.0.059
and some have to
revert back to their previous version.
Like your handle......

Currently Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite version 8.0.059.000 updates hourly.

No matter what frequency you have set the update interval
to it updates hourly - this is a known issue.
The choice is leave
the anti-virus and anti-spyware
to update so your protection will not be out of date and the security of your system compromised
or turn off automatic updates and do them manually.
I recommend leaving the automatic updates on, but its your decision.
On the slowness issue when updates are running are you by any chance on dialup?
The slow speed of dialup makes automatic updating horribly slow.
To quote you: "If it won't let me, I just shut down anyway."
Forcing a shutdown in the middle of an updating process of zone alarm internet security suite or any other program can result in corruption.

It does not happen during the hourly updates.
It happens only when the white arrow is below the Z in the lower right corner.
Maybe it is scanning rather than updating.
It doesn't happen often and I have my antivirus scan set to run weekly -- so maybe it is happening then (although I thought the clock time wasn't right for that).
No, I do not have dialup.
I have Time Warner's fastest broadband connection.
And I do not shut down until the white arrow has gone away.
So, whatever it is doing, it has finished before I shut down.
Nothing runs correctly
while the white arrow is there or even after it has gone away.
All my programs are extremely slow to open and to respond or won't respond at all.
Not even ZASS will open without being extremely slow.
Shutting down, waiting for a few minutes, and rebooting solves the problem.
Because, of course, that's a pain.
Thanks,PJ
