Default Multiple email addresses covered by the anti-virus program

I have my ZoneAlarm security suite registered under my email address. My wife
uses a different email address on my computer. Today she received an email with no problems. She forwarded the email to me and when I oppened the attachement I received a warning from ZoneAlarm that the attachment has a virus and not to open the attachment. Why didn't ZoneAlarm pick up the virus when my wife originally received the email before she forwarded it to my email address?
I am currently running a scan for the virus.
    Thank you.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:7.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

    What did the alert say?
What is the name of the virus?
What does the \windows\internet logs\ZAlog.txt say?
What are your settings in ZA email protection?
What is used to read the email - web mail of some sort? Outlook? Outlook Express?
Did the mail contain attachments, if so what is the file extension or the full name?

This is all happening on ONE computer, which you two share, correct?
Do you login as different users?

Who registered ZA is not relevant.
