Default Does ZA protect from Zero-Day Attacks ?

    .
Is ZA's anti-virus component totally signature based?

I am concerned about the ability of ZA to protect my PC from Zero-Day attacks (malware in the wild during the time before the anti-virus company has discovered and and sent out to it's subscribers the new malware's signature).

My concern arises from what is said in the "sticky" in this forum about why ZA might not detect a virus that the regular retail version of Kaspersky does detect.

That thread says that unlike the retail Kaspersky version, ZA does not have heuristic scanning abilities.

In addition to heuristics, the current retail Kapersky also has behavioral-based detection. Does ZA have the behavioral-based detection method that the retail Kapersky has or any other proactive type of av detection, or is the ZA anti-virus engine totally signature based?

Also, Kaspersky prides itself in having a two hour response time to new malware threats. Is the ZA signature file updated only once every 24 hours?

    Operating System:
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Software Version:
    7.1 (Vista)
    Product Name:
    ZoneAlarm Pro

Yes, but ZA Antivirus is not only composed by theantivirus component otherwise why buying ZA? You could go directly to Kaspersky. ZA is a different product with different features than KAV and with pro-active/0-day antimalware protection that include behavioral based shields as well as sanboxing.See here example of how ZA works:http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en...top-attack.htm

No, signature is updated as Kaspersky signature (on average every hour).
Both products provide excellent protection. Which one to choose? Simple....The one that you fell more comfortable with or that run best on yoursystem.Cheers,Fax
