    Default Antivirus isn't properly set

    I just downloaded a "critical" update for Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite (Windows Vista) and now I get a message that the Antivirus isn't properly set.
    I've selected every option I can find to fix it but nothing works.
    Please help. I'm on the computer a lot and need the AV Software to work.

    I'm having this same problem

    I just installed Zone Alarm today - through the Zonealarm trialoffer offer, so technically its a full version.

    ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:8.0.298.000
    TrueVector version:8.0.298.000
    Driver version:8.0.298.000
    Anti-virus engine version:6.0.2.678
    Anti-virus signature DAT file version:0
    Anti-spyware engine version:5.0.209.0
    Anti-spyware signature DAT file version:01.200903.5465
    AntiSpam version:6.0.0.1429


    However after I installed it, and restarted my computer I got the error that:

    Anti-Virus is deactivated. This can occur if the system clock has been set forward or the anti-virus updates are disabled.

    Well i did the updates, but still not working

    I'm having the same issue. One day I booted up and received the same error message. I downloaded the updates and opened up ZA. The AV was red...clicked on the "fix it" button and it goes green for a split second and returns to red (AV off).

    Hopefully I don't have to buy another company's product.

    I already tried all the old posts with similar errors with no luck -
    including:
    the ctrl shift >> right click icon >> reset
    the safe mode restart and deleting the update folder of zonealarm
    the complete clean re-install

    and no luck

    Any tips from a guru or someone thats been able to fix this>

    due to my business i really need this to be working -

    I tried the other user's solution (de-activating, updating and re-booting), but unfortunately it didn't work.
    I've reported this problem to tech support and will post their solution when I receive it (and if it works).
    If someone else solves the problem first, please let us all know how.

    I have the same problem, and contacted support yesterday, unfortunately nothing suggested so far has worked.when I checked my father's laptop which I also updated yesterday, the anti virus part of zone alarm is working fine.The one major difference between my computer and his, is that yesterday morning (6th March 2009) i downloaded'hotfix for windows (KB946776). Thought this may be the problem this morning, so uninstalled it and eventually after going in to safe mode was able to do a system restore to early yesterday. But as soon as I reinstalled zone alarm the hotfix reinstalled itself, it seems to be acting like a virus. Wondered if anyone else experiencing 'anti virus turned off' problem also has this hotfix installed. Or if any one knows how to get rid of it for good.

    Hah still no luck >> reported the problem and have had 3 different possible solutions sent to me; of which none have worked.

    Rather depressing/frustrating... Especially because I have my computer with 3 partitions (3 different operating systems, xp, vista, win7) and my xp and windows 7 are working perfectly with Zonealarm.. but my vista partition is still giving me this same error that my anti-virus has not properly been set up

    I even tried scanning my harddrive while my Windows 7 was booted and it came clean of virus's so I know that is not the problem..

    Anyone been able to fix this yet?

    Here is the reply from ZA Tech support - but it didn't work for me.

    Thank you for contacting ZoneAlarm.

    I understand that Anti-virus is deactivated. I apologize for any inconvenience.

    Please ensure that the Date/time within Windows is set correctly. Click your clock in the lower right and click "Change date and time settings". Click the Internet Time tab and click "Change Settings". Click Continue if you get a User Account Control message. Now click Update Now. If you get an error, try it again.

    Once it is successful, restart the computer.

    If it still continues, please follow the steps listed below to troubleshoot your issue.

    Download your ZoneAlarm as a saved installation file to your desktop.

    To download the latest version of ZoneAlarm please copy the following link into your browser's address window:

    http://www.zonealarm.com/zasuitedownload

    When the download box pops up, choose Save, in the next box choose Save to Desktop.

    Do a special uninstall of your ZoneAlarm.

    IMPORTANT - If you have a Cisco VPN client installed, you must first uninstall the VPN client, then follow the instructions below, and reinstall the Cisco VPN client again afterwards. This procedure will remove all traces of the TrueVector service, which was incorporated by Cisco into the VPN software.

    NOTE: If you wish to keep your settings, create a Backup from Overview -> Preferences before starting, and then Restore afterwards.

    01.) Right click the ZA icon (if present) and choose shut down

    02.) Click on Start -> Programs -> ZoneAlarm

    03.) RIGHT-click on Uninstall ZoneAlarm Security, then select Properties

    04.) Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be different on your system):

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe"

    Change it to:

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

    (add a space and then the /clean)

    05.) Click Apply, then OK to save the new command line.

    06.) Click on Start -> Programs -> ZoneAlarm -> Uninstall ZoneAlarm Security

    07.) Click Uninstall to run the uninstaller, and choose OK or yes to any security alerts that pop up.

    08.) Say Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files.

    09.) Reboot when prompted

    10.) Go to Start -> My Computer (XP) or open My Computer from your desktop.

    11.) Double click the C: drive

    12.) Double click the Windows folder (it may also be called WINNT in some cases)

    13.) Locate and delete the Internet Logs folder here

    14.) Double click the System32 folder

    15.) Locate and delete the Zone Labs folder here (if present)

    16.) Close this window

    17.) Clear your Windows temporary file cache by following the steps below:

    - Go to Start -> Run

    - Type %temp% and click OK

    - Select all of these files and delete them

    - Empty your recycle bin

    18.) Click on your saved installation file (on your desktop) and follow the instructions through to re-install the software.
