Thread: Memory usage of the virus scanner.

Default Memory usage of the virus scanner.

I have an E6700 (2 cores), and as such am running two instances of ScanningProcess.exe. Each one is using 120MB of RAM immediately after bootup. That's 240MB gone. Why do they need to use so much RAM? Is there some setting I can change to make them use less?

Hi!when idle they should consume 600kb each and NOT 120MB. Open Task Manager wait 2-3 minutes andcheck again. If they still consume MBs then either ZA is corrupted or your HD is accessed by a program (e.g. defrag or backup or other software) that makes the scanner active. To ensure its not a conflict with another tool, boot your system with only ZA and standard OS programs. This way:1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor and ForceField (if there), and click OK.
8.) Restart your computerHow does it work?
NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
    General tab.

Followed those instructions, and it's still using 120MB per process.

I'm going to delete the database files and other .zips in the Internet Logs folder and see if that fixes things.

EDIT: No change after deleting the database files and .zips. Still using 120MB per .exe. Going to do a clean uninstall/reinstall now.

Followup: Did the full clean uninstall and reinstall.

Did the full scan upon reinstall. After 10min of idle, one process is using 1.1M, and the other is at 1.5M. Definitely much better. All is well. Thanks for the tips.
