Default Disable on access protection while scanning the entire pc?

Isn't it good to disable the anti-virus and anti-spyware on access protection while one is doing a complete scan of both viruses and spyware of his computer?
Would that lead to lesser memory eat-up?
Does the on-access scan double scan the files as they are being opened and scanned by the full system scan?

Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
Software Version:8.0
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

NO, it would not.To lighten up the antivirus and antispyware scan you should set the "Scan Mode" to "Normal Scan" (advanced options of the ZA antivirus/antispyware tab). Then if you want to save resouces youcan move the "Scanning priority"to LOW (advanced options of the ZA antivirus/antispyware tab --> scan options) this will reduce theresources used but will substancially increase thetime of scan. If you want a fast scan but a slower PC then you will move the "Scanning priority"to HIGH.Cheers,Fax

I knew all of that, I was just curios if the on-access scanning thing double scanned the files while a full scan was being run.
Thanks anyways!
