Have you tried running your Network Setup Wizard again?

Yes, I've run the nnetwork wizard a couple of times on each computer. They are all in the same workgroup and the computer names are unique. The computers can all see each other in Windows Explorer. It's just the connection from other computers to the ThinkPad that is blocked.- Andrew

    Bill,

Just wanted to let you know that my Thinkpad is again accepting access from other computers on the network.

I'm not sure exactly which chage did the trick. It definitely was not ZA... because rebooting without ZA didn't make any difference.

I did make a registry change based on Microsoft support Article ID : 329441
"You cannot create a network connection after you restore Windows XP"
It says it addresses problems caused by SP1... but I have had SP2 since it came out.

As instructed, I did the following:

    delete the following registry subkeys.
These subkeys on a Windows XP-based computer that does not have SP1 installed can cause the symptoms that this article describes:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan\PPP\EAP\25
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan\PPP\EAP\26

I don't know if this change did the trick... because I also added "Everyone" and each computer individually to the access permissions in the XP Pro Control Panel/Administrator area local policies.

Anyway... thanks again for your help identifying the original infection.

    Cheers,
    Andrew
