Default "Workgroup is not accessible..." error when ZoneAlarm is active

I am having a problem with a message stating that "Workgroup is not accessible..." message when I try to select the Workgroup under Microsoft Windows Networks under the Network Places on Windows XP Media Center Edition when ZoneAlarm is turned on. Other identically configured machines on the network do not seem to have this problem. When I disable ZoneAlarm on the first computer, the other computers/servers, etc. in the Workgroup appear as normal. This does not seem to affect printing to a network printer (using TCP/IP) or to any Internet usage (e-Mail and web browsing work fine).

Is there a change/adjustment that can be made to ZoneAlarm that will keep this computer protected, yet permit use of the Workgroup computer's shares?

    Thanks in advance,

    /Tim

The ZA free does not easily allow for ICS. The ZA paid versions do.

However there are ways to try to make it work.

First approach is use a router and then set the Internet Security Zone slider to Medium. The router is effective in blocking all unrequested inbound and thus providing a good barrier of security between the LAN and the internet. Placing the slider at Medium instead of High will often do the trick.

Second is make sure that all of the IP of all the PCs are listed in the Zones of the Firewall of the Zone Alarm. They must be entered as trusted. The DNS and DHCP server addresses and the localhost must be listed as Trusted as well. Do the ipconfig /al in all of the PCs and get their assigned IP and enter it in the PC that is in question.

After all is done, reboot and see what happens.
