    I checked the file, 'srescan.sys' (location c:\windows\system32\zonelabs ant it's only 50K in size.
    Date of file is 1-5-2007
    I have a Dell Dimension Pentium 4 duo core, 1 gig memory, 250 gig HDD, WinXP Media Ctr SP-2, avast AV, with ZoneAlarm (free
    ver):7.0.302.000.
    I searched for any mention of this error on the forum but don't see it mentioned anywhere.
    Any help in this matter would be appreciated.

    Hi

    The ZAfree version 7 has parts for the ZASS version 7.

    The srescan is not even needed. it can be safely removed.

    Thanks Oldsod,
    After posting this BSOD error (Stop 50), I found the 'search' button at the bottom of the forum.
    I found the thread where others were having the same problem.
    I decided I'd try to remove 'srescan.sys' like the instructions here state:

    So far that's worked for me.
    Next step for me I guess would be to fall back to ver 6 if necessary.

    Hi Rick-F

    There is another trick. Download the latest ZAPro and install it. Turn off all the Privacy and the Spyscanner. Leave the OS Firewall off. Then wait for the trial to expire. The ZAFree is now ready for use and has no further issues.

    For your suggestion.
    I think I'll stick with this one for now. I used ZAP for
    a few years... until I got zapped with a product
    upgrade that no longer worked on my old Win98 machine.
    Had to drop back to prior version (Ver 4.594 I think it was).

    Since I purchased a 2 yr license, I got burned for the second yr of use, but... ver 4 continued to work fine for me.
    I did like the cache cleaner that was built into ZAP though.
