Default c:\windows\Internet Logs\zalog.txt file not being written to.

    Hi,

I noticed 2 things about my ZAISS 7.0.337 installation.

    1) c:\windows\Internet Logs\zalog.txt is no longer being written to.

    2) Under Alerts and logs tab, I only see alerts and logs for 1 or 2 days, then they disappear.
I have archiving turned off, and am not sure why my logs entries after 1 or 2 days are disappearing from the ZAISS Alerts and log tab display,
even though I have the "Show last drop down list under Alerts and Logs" set to 999.

I would hope that there is a rational explanation for this, as I would prefer not to lose all my settings
and have to reset the database.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bill

wstern: i've had this problem for about 3 months now. have tried everything i could think except installing linux, to include clean reinstall, upgrade, restore point, and reformat/reinstall xp. each time it comes back in about a week.
it's worrisome because i like to track who's probing and because if i got into someone's system the 1st thing i would do is eliminate the trail. so, any answers, anyone? now at v.7.0.462.

from v.7 manual, Archiving Log Files:

"If the Log Archive Frequency check box is not selected, ZoneAlarm security
software continues to log events for display in the Log Viewer tab, but does not
archive them to the ZAlog.txt file."

guessing "...does not archive them to the ZAlog.txt file." means "...does not write them to the ZAlog.txt file."
    testing:
    - selected View Log, error msg: "there is no log file to view"
    - selected Delete Log, error msg: "there is no log file to delete"
    - selected Archive log text files every 60 days (re-checked the box)
    - waited 5 for a new entry in the log viewer
    - selected View Log: now have a log with 1 entry.
    guess confirmed.

for my purposes that's all i need because it also gets rid of the second bug, and bugs they are, the log viewer starting over every 2 days.

someone in software development should want to look at this, because the explanation in the manual appears evasive (read cya). log events are not archived, they're written, it's the ZAlog.txt file that's archived.

the only plausible explanation would appear to be a corrupted database
and your choices there are three: 1) live with it
    2) reset the database
3)uninstall and reinstall, and since you are at the 7.0.337.00version you could consider upgrading to the latest version.
If you haven't already you might contact technical support and see if they have a better answer for youTechnical Support: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/conte...ch_support.jsp
