Default ScanningProcess.exe taking over my CPU

Quite frequently now, I find the "ScanningProcess.exe" is taking up all available CPU cycles, on the order of 98-99%.
I can reboot, and it behaves for a while, but eventually kicks in and takes over.
    Suggestions?

    Thanks...Neil

What do you have the scanning priority set on in the virus scanner. Also do you have something running that opens files in the background regularly?

I have the priority set to medium.
    I believe so.
I am using Carbonite, an on-line backup tool.

Is your backup tool doing an incremental backup (a few files every so often)? Or does it only backup changed files?
