Default LIBEAY32_0.9.5l.dll, no user interface, incorrectly drawn (and unreadable/unusable) windows...

Whenever I reboot, I get the message that "LIBEAY32_0.9.6l.dll" was not found, and in fact, it is not anywhere on my system (so that's not a lie ;&gt. The ZoneAlarm client (zlclient.exe) DOES run, but the GUI user interface does not (in any apparent way). Not only that, but Zone Alarm (I know this for an actual fact) does pop-up message boxes that are totally unreadable (in all kinds of and varying ways) and not removable (since no buttons are displayed, and clicking anywhere in the (mostly invisible) pop-up message box yields no results), as well as a "large" window that only sort-of shows the title bar. (And pieces of the pop-up windows randomly appear (in small fragments) all over the screen). I am running Windows Vista with SP1 installed (although these problems existed prior to my installing SP1), and I don't have a CLUE as to how to tell what version of ZoneAlarm I am running given that there is effectively no user-interface that I can use to allow me to check and find out (it is a relatively recent ( 2 months) version). There WAS a previous reference to LIBEAY32...dll in this forum, but it had no replies. Finally, I get "Access Denied" error messages when trying to "kill" zlclient.exe (which I was doing in the HOPE of doing a "delete all ZoneAlarm files" and re-install, and this is when I am logged in under the TRUE Windows Vista "Administrator" account. (Yes, that account is initially "hidden" in Windows Vista, but I "un-hid" it.)

    Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
    Software Version:What Version?
Product Name: Which one of the four types of ZoneAlarm?...

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> to the Zone Alarm User Forum..It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..
or what Previous Version of ZA and Norton, McAfee or other Security programs that you have installed,

It looks like you have a corrupted install?

You will need to go into ZA Overview/Preferences and Un-check "Load ZA on Startup", then Reboot computer to remove any ZA drivers from Memory so that they will not conflict with the New Install..

Since you did not indicate what type of ZoneAlarm for Vista you are installing, here is a direct download link to all four..

    ZAFree http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.htmlZAP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/information/zap/releaseHistory_vista.htmlZAAV http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...ory_vista.htmlZAAS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/information/zaas/releaseHistory_vista.htmlZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...ory_vista.html

While the Following Instruction are for ZASS for Vista, they will work for the other types of ZA..

Probably the best is to have a full manual remove of ZASS and reinstall.

Please note that ZASS does not always play nice with many security tools. For example, ad-aware, spybotS&amp;D, spyware doctor, spysweeper. For sure it cannot be installed if you have still another antivirus software or firewall installed or active.

To troubleshoot ZASS issue is highly recommended to remove all the above and install back (if you really need to) after your ZASS works as it should. If you have not installed any of the above ensure that NO left overs are in the system (they can conflict).

First re-download the latest ZASS version here: r one of the other types
    http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html

Then : Remove your current ZASS from the control panel --&gt; uninstall a program

Then follow the steps below to ensure NO ZA left over are on your system before reinstalling
The instruction are for XP, they are basically the same for VISTA (e.g. start --&gt; VISTA search box --&gt; and write the command)

    01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
    Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
    (Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
    10.) Click OK
    11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
&gt; ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
    possible.

    14.) Close this window
    15.) Click Start, My Computer
    16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs

    present:

    - vsconfig.xml
    - vsxml.dll
    - vsregexp.dll

    - vsdata95.vxd
    - vsdatant.sys
    - vsmonapi.dll

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
    registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start &gt;&gt; Run &gt;&gt; and type regedit. Click on Help &gt;&gt; Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computerNow Re-install ZoneAlarm, Accept the the default settings, and choose the TRUSTED ZONE and Not the INTERNET Zone..

    Good Luck..

I did as you suggested, did a complete removal (doing as you suggested, although not every item &quot;worked&quot, re-downloaded (what seemed to be) the most &quot;complete&quot; version (i.e. firewall, ant-virus, anti-spyware, etc.), did a (complete) reinstall, and still have the same results (No usable ZoneAlarm GUI interface, (multiple!) dialog boxes that pop-up but are (almost) completely unreadable with (apparently) no &quot;usable&quot; buttons to dismiss them (I only know that they are from ZoneAlarm because one the few things that is actually readable (although it is partially overwritten by other (dark-blue and mostly unreadable) text is the message &quot;SmartDefense Advisor - SmartDefense Advisor is not available for this alert type&quot)). Again, I CAN NOT TELL YOU VERSION(S) MORE THAN THAT BECAUSE THE ZONEALARM GUI INTERFACE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL! (Although the fact that I JUST DOWNLOADED WHAT WAS APPARENTLY THE LATEST VERSION from the ZoneAlarm Web Site should be a clue.) Again, this is a Medion Laptop with a dual-core 64-bit Athalon CPU running at 2+GHz and with 2 Gigabytes of RAM running Windows Vista Home-Premium with Service Pack 1 installed. As far as &quot;without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on.. or what Previous Version of ZA and Norton, McAfee or other Security programs that you have installed&quot; is concerned, THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE other than (almost totally unreadable!) dialog boxes, and THERE ARE NO DETAILS OTHER THAN WHAT I HAVE ALREADY STATED! Also, there are NO VERSIONS of Norton, McAfee, or any other Security programs installed much less RUNNING!
