Thread: "ID Lock Alert" won't stop popping up (only on Facebook site)

Default "ID Lock Alert" won't stop popping up (only on Facebook site)

This problem ONLY happens when on Facebook, nowhere else.

When logged into Facebook, about every 30-60 seconds I get several ZoneAlarm "ID Lock Alert" popups warning me that my name is being sent -- to the same few Facebook-related addresses.

Even though I tell ZoneAlarm to "Allow" and to "Remember this setting," the popups keep coming at regular intervals, as if I hadn't told it to remember. It constantly interrupts whatever I'm doing.

Any fixes for this peculiar problem?

    Thank you!

(I use ZoneAlarm Pro 8 on XP Pro SP3; both are fully updated.)

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:8.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro

I asked ZoneAlarm tech support, no response for over a week. Not good customer support.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    glenno,
You may be dealing with a corrupt za database which can be caused by any "unusual" shutdown like a power outage or crash.
Try resetting the zone alarm database and see if that clears the issue.
To reset the Zone Alarm database do this:
1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot
Be aware that by resetting the database you will lose all your customizations.

Thanks, Findley! Is it odd that it only happens at one site?

    >Be aware that by resetting the database you will lose all your customizations.

Does that mean I'd lose all my "myVAULT" ID protection entries, my 100+ Program Control entries, my 100+ Site List settings, and my Firewall Zones, etc.? Or would I just lose the main settings? If the former, wow, that'd take a day to make a record of and reset! (I'll keep those instructions handy, but just in case there's another solution I'll wait for that as a last resort... don't even know when I'd have time to do all that.)

    glenno,

Yes unfortunately. The reason I suggested the database reset is because whenever zone alarm "forgets" "doesn't remember settings" this is an indicator of a corrupted database. Have you made zone alarm backups before the problem started? If so, you can reset the zone alarm database and then simply restore your settings from a clean backup. If no backup has been created - well, to speed the re-establishing of setting everything up agains take screenshots of your settings to make it easier to set it all up again.

Thanks again Findley. I was unaware of the backup function. Bummer.

I'll wait to see if tech support offers anything else. If not, I may drop ZoneAlarm and find other software. This is too much to do. One would think if this is a known issue, that periodic automatic backups would be built in. I mean, there are actually THOUSANDS of settings that have accumulated over the years (when you count every program, every site, and every option for each of them)! As I said, bummer I didn't know about backups.

    Oh, well.

    glenno,

Sorry to hear you didn't know about the backup and restore feature in zone alarm. It's a great feature and yes, I agree, it would be nice if it was automatic, but manual is better than nothing. Sounds like you have really customized your computer and I would assume that goes for more than zone alarm. I too customize alot and some time ago I started using imaging software - acronis - to clone my hard drives and save me hours? days? of re-setting things up. You may want to explore using additional backup software.

On the issue of the tech ticket - did you get a tech acknowledgement that you had submitted a tech ticket?

Yeah, I set permissions for every program, and set privacy settings for many websites to prevent obvious ad sites and certain others from setting cookies, mobile code, web bugs, etc. Which is one of the reasons I like having a comprehensive firewall program.

I do have a system backup from not too long ago, perhaps I could find the ZA settings file and reuse that somehow? I'm sure I've made very few changes since then... though I think I finally installed the last ZA update after that backup.

No, I never got an acknowledgment that I submitted a tech ticket. I even resent it 2 days ago and still no acknowledgment. Weird. I got one immediately when I submitted one last summer, and got instant help then. Neither my email nor my subscription key have changed, I triple-checked both upon submission.

Hmm, I wonder if the license key is case sensitive? In ZA it's lowercase, but I checked the old email in which I got it, and it's uppercase. I'll try that.

    glenno,

I paste my license number in to the tech ticket form and it's lower case. I think you're correct though that it's not case sensitive.

Have you gotten a confirmation on your tech ticket yet? My experience has always been that after submitting the tech form you get a message on screen that says " Your message has been successfully sent" Do you get that?

Next within minutes(?) in my inbox is a confirming email from tech with a case number. Did you get that?
