Default ZASS Log Viewer shows only two or three days worth of logged events

    Hello:

I have my log viewer set to show the last 200 alerts, but I rarely see more than a few days of such events.

They are to be found at Alerts and Logs-->Main-->Advanced-->Log Control-->View Log

and they're not in a very easy to view format. Those are located in the Internet Logs folder and are scheduled to be archived every 60 days.

It's also rather tedious to get there.

It seems that a reboot or freeze-up of a program might cause the loss of many log viewer events, but I'm not sure of this.

    Question:

Is there a way I can ensure that the events/alerts remain viewable in the Log Viewer tab?

    Thanks in advance:

Are these firewall logs or Program or OSfirewall logs?

I made a shortcut to the Internet Logs folder and stuck it in the All Users Start Menu (this saves a few clicks). This way it appears in the top in the All Programs listing.
    Saves few mouse clicks.

There is a log reader and sorter which will slect the logs from the Internet Logs folder, read and sort these in different ways.
It is considered shareware but is actually freeware as it does have a nag screen to just register and send in a small fee. But it works fine without getting registered.

(hint the complete key is easily found using google for "MBKBBCFB" and it is safe - the sites will not offer a keygen or an executible file, just a simple text message showing the needed information for unlocking the log reader in the html page. Copy and paste into a text file and then ienter the info into the log reader).

    Hi again, Oldsod:

The disappearance of entries in Alerts&Logs-->Log Viewer happens with all the categories in the drop-down menu there, including: Firewall, OS Firewall, AV, AS, etc. Entries seem not to last in the Log Viewer there longer than a few days. Even though I entered Show last: 200 in the drop down menu there for all those alerts. This had happened about a year ago as well. I forgot how it was corrected. But I notice it came back recently.

I'm primarily interested in the Anti Virus entries in the Log Viewer.

If I can't somehow fix this issue, I'll look into the approach you suggest.

    Thanks again:

The suggested log reader will only do the firewall logs, not any other.
So you may not want to install it.

I have almost no entries in these logs you mention - the ones that do correspond to your listing (I use the Pro) only shows the most recent events too.
Not the last entries for the later dates.

However I do se the logging to 'one' day, not longer - other wise the firewall logs get too large and seem to slow things down (I have a logging setup for many things so my ZA is logging a lot more than usual or what is normal for most users. The result is a huge log created in a very short period of time - hence one day archiving).

Is the Event logging set to High and everything properly adjusted in the Advanced options?

    Hi again, Oldsod:

I found my old post of about a year ago on this very issue.

Seems I was able to correct this by resetting the database. At present, I dont think it urgent enough to do that.

My sincere apologies for not searching this forum for previous posts. Especially since it was a thread I had started on this very issue.

The database reset is usually the 'cure-all' answer.

However if you intend to do a database reset, then after once the ZA is settled in once again after the resettting and it has all the right programs listed and is set to your own wants and needs, then immediately make a backup.
Save the backup and continue to create newer backups every several weeks or so.

Then if the database is ever again to be reset, then reset the database and then Restore your previous last good setting. This way the ZA is cleaned up and you still have your nice settings.
There is a chance the last backup is also corrupted, so just then Restore using the next previous backup for the settings.

But the question remains as to why to the ZA got corrupted - such as any recent program issues freezing or locking up the computer, hard shutdowns, not defragging recently, reg cleaners have done something wrong, memory issues (maybe a bad memory card), conflicting third party security software, a recent bad uninstall of some other program, recent malware infection, and so forth.
