Default Zone Alarm failed and turned firewall and antivirus off whilst computer connected to Internet

I returned to the office after a meeting today to find two worrying messages.

    1) A ZoneAlarm message that Zonealarm ISS had a stability problem and had closed and would I like to send the usual info back to Checkpoint.

    2. A Windows message that the computer was insecure because the Zonealarm firewall and anti-virus were turned off.

This means that for most of the day my main accounting computer was connected to the net without a firewall.

This is unacceptable for a security program such as Zonealarm.

    Anyone else experienced similar problems?

    Terry

to the Zone Alarm User Forum..It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..

1.) This could be caused for several reasons.. a.) Corrupted Install, b.) running other Security that Conflicts with or Blocks ZoneAlarm, c.) Turning Windows Firewall Back ON while ZoneAlarm is running.. d.) Malware infection or Trojan infection from Surfing the internet or Clicking on an Email Attachmet..some Computer Users think that if one Firewall and anti-Virus is good, two or three different ones running at the same time must be better?

6.)- have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZoneAlarm firewall product.

Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software Firewalls at the same time.
Just One, Not Two -- Never use two Anti-virus products at the same time. =====================================2.) if you need to Uninstall your Corrupted ZA Install..The simplest procedure is to :1.Download the Latestinstallerpreferably with IE Browwserand no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire) ZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html2. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --> Preferences tab)3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory4.) Now use the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool: Click here > http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exeSave to desktop, right click and "run as administrator"This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions.
(you can un-install without net connections)5.) Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..*****>> VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: <<*****Please note that ZASS and ZAXdo not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled). To troubleshoot ZASS/ZAX issues remove them and install back once you see that ZA works as it should. For example,Norton/Symantec, McAfee,Spyspweeper, Spyware Doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&D, PC tools Threatfire, otherantivirus, antispyware, Registry Guard or locking tools, etc...--------------------------------------------------------

I had a similar problem this morning: booted up my Windows XP Pro PC and got the warning that my anti-virus was not working. Tried the "Fix it" button to no avail. I also tried setting my updates to manual (as per some older advice).

What worked for me was right-clicking on the Zone Alarm system tray icon and shutting the program down. Then I manually activated it from my Start menu. Now it is running in the green.

Windows has taught me a basic strategy: when trouble arises, shut the troublemaker down and start over. It also has made me a fan of Mac and Linux. Hmm, I wonder if this would work for the economy?
