Thread: ZoneAlarm Problems

    Default ZoneAlarm Problems

Installed Zone Alarm and it would keep blocking the computers on the
network, so I added them to the list of IP addresses to accept, but the next
time you'd restart the computer, it would block them again. I updated Zone
Alarm to the latest version to get a message when you open Zone Alarm that said something
like system error - restart your computer in the corner. So, I did and it
still did it. Uninstalled Zone Alarm, and now I didn't have any access to
the Internet or our home network at all. Reinstalled the old version of
Zone Alarm, and configured it occordingly. I was able to get the Internet
back, but it still can't access the network. I again put the IP addresses
in, but it still blocked the network this time. No computers can connect to
this computer either. (Meaning another computer can't access the computer
with the problem's network folder.) (All computers (3) have XP) On the computer with the problem, I get
this message: (Window Title: My Network Places) \\COMPUTER1\SharedDocs is
not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.
Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions. The network was not found. If I just try to access the
computer with the problem from another computer, the explorer will just
    freeze up. Thanks.

Oh by the way, everytime that I got to a certain spot installing ZoneAlarm
when I went to reinstall it (the old version), the computer would restart itself. I had to go
into Safe Mode to get it to install. If you can tell me how to fix the
problem without having Zone Alarm, that would work too because after all the
problems I've had with it, I'm ready to remove it if I can without causing
other problems unless you can tell me how to get Zone Alarm to remember my IP addresses so it won't block the network if I can get the computer to access the network again in the first place. Thansk again.

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)
    Software Version:4.x

Hi KPMaster and welcome to the Forum. All the free versions of ZoneAlarm doesn't support Internet Connection Sharing. Upgrade to the Pro version or get a router then you can use the free versions on all machines. Or you mustlower the Internet Security Settings to Medium, a big security risk.Another solution is to run a proxy on the gateway machine, here is an good free one:http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...work/proxy.htmAnd then Add the clients to it.Best regards/Vriendelijke groeten. I just shut off Zone Alarm and the A/V just to see what would happen with the network. I managed to access one computer, but another computer still is not accessible.

You can't let it run with the Free versions of ZoneAlarm. Read this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u.../getsetup.mspxBest regards, Gerard Konijn. Tilburg, The Netherlands.

Okay, then is there a special procedure I should use to remove Zone Alarm, or should I just remove it like any other program? Should I do some registry cleaning of Zone Alarm, etc.? Thanks.

I still can't access the one computer. The other one I can though. I was told that you should uninstall Z/A and Avast both to see if that would make the difference. I'll go see what I can do.

I removed Avast completely and restarted the computer and still can't get access to that one computer.

I got it to work finally. I reformatted the problem computer and the network still wouldn't cooperate, but all I had to do was drop the Windows Firewall on the problem computer and now everything works. Thanks.
