Default Problems with my connections a boot-up

Windows XP 2 Home addition..Wireless rounter NetgearDSL form SBC Yahoo
    ALL:
Since I loaded ZoneAlarm free (latest) and later
ZoneAlarm Pro, I have been having problem at boot up with consistance connection.
With ZoneAlarm free it would connect the first time at boot-up about 50% of the time.
A simple reboot of the system usually clears that up, and sometime, turning both my router and DSL modem off and on.
With ZoneAlrm Pro, I hardly every get a good connection between my wireless router and DSL modem, and rebooting the machine and on/off turnoff of both my router and modem don't work as well.
What does work though is shutting down my Netgear Wireless program, and reruning the software, and the connection establishes....
This is a work around, but I want the connection to establish at start up.
    I have done
the custom firewall thing and wireless connection are in the trusted zone.
    I'm I missing anything???

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro
    Software Version:6.0

When you follow your "work around" procedure as you described, do you get a ZA alert that a new network was found?

    No,
    ZA does not.
    Netgear program
just loads and connects with no message.

In your Firewall > Zones panel, do you have your LAN in the Trusted zone? It should look something like this 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 ? Also, does Generic Host Process have 'server' rights in the Trusted zone (not Internet zone)?

I believe yes to the first, I don't know to the second.
I'm not at my home machine now to check on this (sometime after 6:30 P.M CST).
    How and where
    do check for both???

Open your ZA control panel, click on Firewall then Zones and see what is there. It should be the LAN IP and submask I posted. The second one you click on Program Control and then Programs tab and look for Generic Host Process. There should be a check under the first 3 columns but not the 4th column. Let us know. I'm trying to determine if you have a setting problem or database problem.

    Bill:

My trusted zone has those LAN numbers 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 and my Generic Host Process has server rights but not internet(3 checks only with an X on the 4th)
    .

    Bullshot....

    P.S.
I had to shut down my Netgear WG311 v2 program and relaunch in order to connect.
I seem that on start up, both DSL and wireless are working, but they are not talking to each other.
I do have my Netgear set on WEP on high security to make it difficult for hackers to break into my wireless.
I like the security Zone Alarm Pro provides, but I wish I new why I have to restart Netgear in order to connect...

I wondering if it is a problem with ZA or the modem to router connection. To test that, open your ZA control panel, go to your Overview Preferences tab and uncheck the 'load at startup' option. Now reboot and see if you have to jump through the hoops again. If not, recheck your ZA load at boot option, reboot, and did you connect?

    Bill:

    Great mines must thing alike.
    That is what I was
    going to do next.
I have to get home first.
    I will keep you posted.
It might be a router/modem problem.
If it turns out to be router/modem, full apologies wasting the forum's time
    are in order.
I should know enough about computer (since 1979) that
    I should have
    eliminated that possibility.

A little history on my wireless connection:
Before ZoneAlarm, I have had problems with connectivity with SBC/Yahoo' s DSL line from time to time.

    Bill:

Bill, I did the routine removing ZoneAlarm from loading at start-up, and wireless connected solid the first time. If I can't fixed the ZoneAlarm start-up problem interfering with my wireless, then I will start up ZoneAlarm manually after boot-up, unless a solution can be done with the setting to have my wireless load properly with ZoneAlarm.
Can you help me on this?
(Thanks for the suggestion to check my wireless connection...).
