Default Periodically unable to access internet

I am running XP with SP2.
    Running ZA Security Suite 6.1.717.000.
Not running wireless.I rarely turn off my desktop.
It runs and access the internet very well for days at a time, and then loses the DHCP and DNS servers addresses. When it is accessing properly running IPCONFIG shows both DNS and DHCP addresses.
When the connection is lost IPCONFIG shows neither DHS/DHCP.
Following instructions provided in other responses regarding internet access I have done the following:
    1. Added the IP addresses to the TRUSTED sone
    2. In Firewall main - Internet Zoe Security I set trusted and internet to "allow outgoing DHCP/DNS"

If I have to, I can live with this becasue it runs well between failures, but I would like to resolve the problem.
Never had this problem before I switched
    from Norton Security Suite

Having done the above, I am not sure what else I can do to prevent failures - Any suggestions?

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite
    Software Version:6.0

    Hi Argee,

"PERHAPS" I can help you, as I am a user of Zone Alarm Pro. You mentioned you can always live with the problem, NO, I am going to find a solution for this problem for you.

In your Firewall > Zones panel, do you have your LAN in the Trusted zone? It should look something like this 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 ? Also, does Generic Host Process have 'server' rights in the Trusted zone (not Internet zone)?

Open your ZA control panel, click on Firewall then Zones and see what is there. It should be the LAN IP and submask I posted. The second one you click on Program Control and then Programs tab and look for Generic Host Process. There should be a check under the first 3 columns but not the 4th column. Let
me know. I'm trying to determine if you have a setting problem or database problem.

Hope this info has helped you, PLEASE keep me inform.

Thank you for your time and have a nice day!

Thanks for the quick response - checked on the items you indicated and I think all looks well.
    My findings follow:
    1. LAN is in the internet zone - Should I change to Trusted?
    2. Address
      is 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0
    3. Generic Host
      - first column is all green - Super - next 3 cols are checked then red x

    Thanks for your support.

Slyfox - I hope you are still watching.
As mentioned yesterday, I made the change you and others recommended, and then rebooted
    - and I did not even survive for 24 hours.
This afternoon lost access to internet - ipaddress was gone.
Fortunately the system repair process restores it, but the problem continues.
    Any further thoughts?

    Hi
    Argee,

Yes, I am here and watching.
I've found another solution, that may or may not solve this problem.
It's a database reset, but you will lose all your configurations and will need to put them back into Zone Alarm again.
    Here are the instructions.

Now I'm thinking that your ZA database is not reading the settings properly. Try resetting your ZA database and see if that will fix it. When you reset, it will act like a new install and you'll need to grant permissions anew. Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

    1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode. {Instructions if needed}
    2. Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.
    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.
    4.Reboot into the normal mode.

Hope this info has helped you, if not PLEASE post back.

Thank you for your time and have a nice evening!

Do you really think this is a data base issue?

Before I try it, I have two questions:
    1. Will I lose all of the virus and spyware updates done since I went live with ZA suite in December?
      Does it
      matter?
Will they all re-update against blank data base?
    2. If, instead of deleting the rdb files, I move them elsewhere, can I move them back if the data base rebuild fails to do the trick, or is that a dangerous thing to do?

    Thanks for the support.

    Hi Argee,

    That's a very good question, I
    really don't know the answer.
I am going to give you the direct link to Zone Alarm Tech Support and have them answer your question correctly.
PLEASE let me know what Tech Support tells you to do.

Not to be difficult, but I asked two questions - which is the good one that I should take to Tech support, and can you answer the other one
    1. Will I lose all of the virus and spyware updates done since I went live with ZA suite in December?
      Does it
      matter?
Will they all re-update against blank data base?
