Default Home Network: No Print & File Sharing

    Hey all,
I've been troubleshooting this problem all day and finally read somewhere that ZoneAlarm will kill your home network access via Print & File Sharing (there went 4 hours of my life I'll never get back). I shut down ZA, start windowXP Firewall and all works perfectly (printing and file sharing). I stop XP firewall and start ZA: Nothing. No access.

Now I know my way around computers and networks, but I'm having a heck of a time getting ZA to work with a simple, home network (2 PCs). Surely there's a simple solution, but danged if I can find it.

Can anyone point me to, what should be, an obvious fix?

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

The free version of ZoneAlarm doesn't support Internet Connection Sharing.

Thanks for the quick response. Maybe I'm confusing your answer, but I'm not trying to share an internet connection. I'm trying to share files and printer across my 2 home computers.

    Are you using a router?

Make sure you've got your LAN in the Trusted zone of your Zone Alarm Firewall > Zones panel. Also enter the IP of the computers into the Trusted zone. Put your Trusted zone security on 'Medium' and not 'High' if you've not already done so.

I've tried to do all this, but honestly, it's just too **bleep** confusing and I haven't been able to get it to work. Perhaps ZA isn't the product for this environment if you have to be an IT specialist to make it work. XP's firewall seems to know, without setting anything, to let the other computers on the same home network have access to print and file sharing. I know it's not as good as ZA, but you don't have to be Einstein to get it to work.

I just had this same problem today. For DAYS now, since hooking up both computers to the DSL modem through a hub, I've been going BONKERS trying to get them to file share!

So I finally set Zone Alarm's Trusted Zone security to "LOW" and it worked! ARGHH!

I'm using the free version here, we're low income. So is there a way to get this free version to work AND file share too, or am I out of luck?
