Default Problem with access to sites with popup windows

Can anyone help. I have been a ZA user for nearly 2 years and only had a problem once before re access issues but I managed to sort that by checking messages on Forum. Anyhow, all of a sudden I am having trouble accessing any site that isn't listed in a "favourite file" and even then sometimes I get an error message. I seem to have a red "no entry" sign on bottom line of internet search page which I haven't noticed before which I assume has something to do with my problem. The usual message I get is "A popup window was blocked" but I have checked my settings time and time again and my privacy headers are off and I'm not blocking ads etc. Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Operating System:Windows 98 (original)
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro

    Hi robcrest,

PLEASE try the following fix, if it does not fix the problem, PLEASE post back, Thanks.

A database reset will fix the problem if Zone Alarm is the problem in the first place. Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

    1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode. {Instructions if needed}
    2. Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.
    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.
    4.Reboot into the normal mode.

    Hi Slyfox

Thanks for replying. I'm a bit of a computer dunce and am not sure how to put computer into safe mode but I cannot access the help instructions! (message a popup window was blocked). Any ideas although I'm not sure it is a ZA problem.

    Hi robcrest,

    http://www.laplink.com/support/kb/article.asp?ID=102

If your computer is running Windows 98 or Windows ME
    1.
From the Windows Start menu, go to Shut Down and click Restart.

As the computer restarts, press and hold the CTRL key.
Note: On some keyboards you can press and hold the flying Window key. On some computers, the F8 key can be used instead of the CTRL key.

From the Windows Start-up menu, type the number for the Safe Mode option or press F5.

Wait for your desktop to appear. Your computer will run slower, and your icons may appear larger with fewer colors. The words Safe Mode appear in all corners of your screen. Make the necessary repairs (for example, uninstall programs or devices).

When the repairs are done, restart the computer, and allow it to boot normally.

    Alternate:
    1.
From the Windows Start menu, click Run.

In the Open field, type MSCONFIG and click Ok.

On the General tab, click the Advanced button.

Check Enable Startup Menu.

Click Ok twice and restart your computer.

On the Microsoft Windows Startup Menu, use your arrow keys, highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

PLEASE keep me posted with your results, Thanks.

Hi Slyfox, thanks for your time - sorry for the delay in responding - whatever I did (nothing to do with your suggestions) completely "broke" my computer! It is all sorted now - seems to have been a combination of viruses (I thought I was fully protected by ZA but apparently not) and something I tried to download. Anyhow, it's now fixed and so is my problem! Thanks again for taking the trouble to respond to my distress call.
