Turn the other security applications off and the other internet applications off. Just have the ZA and the browser open. Does it work now?

Do not try the 6.5. After the uninstall, try the ZA 6.1 instead and see if that makes a difference.

    Too late.
    I already installed 6.5 after the C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe /clean command.
Same problem, though I didn't install with a thin boot up the way you described.
I'm going back to 6.1, and will turn off the updater.
I'll let you know if that solves it.

Only good conclusion I reached is that it is not you or the PC or your settings. It has to be the firewall itself then.

    Welll.....I did it all.
Clean uninstall, rebooted, killed all but the bare minimum processes (no anti-v, SpyBot, IBM ThinkPad stuff), then installed 6.1.744.001.
    Then rebooted.
    Same old problem.
So again I killed all non-essential processes including anti-v.
Still, I can browse netbios w/o ZA open, start ZA and the browser times out.
I have Acronis and a drive image from a month ago.
I'm going back to that image, make sure I can
browse, then turn off ZA's update thing.

    OK guys, got it now.

I have Acronis and put a drive image back on here from October 7th.
Sure enough I could browse a peer to peer network just fine.
So then I made the changes to bring the computer back to where it was on November 15, and tried to browse my network after each install.
I uninstalled McAfee, then installed AVG FreeMoved from Microsoft's wireless utility to the IBM one in this ThinkPadMoved my
backed up data inDownloaded about 7 Windows updates
After each of those I could still browse the network with ZA up.
    Then:
    I downloaded IE7.
Now I have to kill ZA to browse the network.

Were the ZA and the security applications disabled for the IE7 install??

If possible, go back to before the IE7 install and resume from there. Then install the IE7 without any security or ZA active.

Some users have actually uninstalled the ZA before installing the IE7- they found this was the only way to get these two to work properly. They found this out the hard way. I was fortunate- just disabling the ZA and the other security applications did the trick.

I might give that a try later.
I'm at a client's right now, and am a bit worn out on the issue...but might try it as browsing networks does make my life easier.

    I give up.
I went back and uninstalled IE7, then restored back to before and did it all again.
I killed all but about 20 processes....no way any security type process was running when I reinstalled IE7.
    I'm done.
For now I'll just kill ZA when I want to browse a network.
If they patch it up, great.
Otherwise, I may have to do something else.
To be honest, I've just spent too much time fixing my firewall in the last year.
