Default Only 1 site can be accessed

...any other web address results in a "page cannot be displayed." No error messages. (I'm writing this on my wife's computer.)

I called my ISP, who had me tweak a few settings. That seemed to cure it, and all was normal for about 3 minutes; then it returned to just being able to get my web broker's site, and nothing besides it. Why just that one site? Why did the fix not stay fixed? I ask you, is 1 web site any way to live? PLease help, thanks.

Data: (Windows ME, I.E. 5.5, same security settings as wife's (i.e. wide open), scanned for spyware, ran AVG for viruses, large cache)

and follow the advice and use the utility.

Make sure your DNS and DHCP server IP's are in your Firewall's Trusted zone. Finding DNS and DCHP servers, etc

    1. Go to Run type in command , hit 'ok', and type ipconfig /all then press enter. In the returned data list will be a line DNS and DHCP Servers with the IP address(s) listed out to the side.
    2. In ZA on your machine on the Firewall>Zones tab click Add and then select IP Address. Make sure the Zone is set to Trusted.
    3. Click OK and then Apply and see if that works to fix it.
    4. The loopback or localhost (127.0.0.1) must be listed as Trusted.
    5. The Generic Host Process (svchost.exe) must have server rights for the Trusted Zone.
Plus it must have both Trusted and Internet Access.

Hello, and Thank you, Old Sod (I'm one too:-),I ran the program (w2fix) you kindly recommended.
I have no idea what it did, but it surely did what it needed to do; because all seems to be working well now.
    What did it do?
Anyway, were I not a fellow "old sod," I'd be naming my first born after you (though it would be a heck of a name for a kid to carry for the first half century of its life).
Anyway, I bow to your "Guru" lotus feat

Hi NonSum (non sum qualis eram??)

The TCP/IP stack of the Windows OS was damaged.
The utility did some short cuts for the usual commands needed to fix it. The TCP/IP stack usually gets damaged by some installs and uninstalls of software and also can be damaged by malware infections.

    a bene placito,

To no longer be what I once was, is one more thing to be extremely grateful for.

Hello OldSod, and others,The fix that OldSod recommended has ceased to work.
Though I try to repeat it, it no longer makes any changes at all.
Once again, I still have internet access to only '1' web site, and no others.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you, NS (Not Sufficient-access)
