A database reset will fix the problem if Zone Alarm is the problem in the first place. Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

    1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode.
    2. Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.
    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.
    4. Reboot into the normal mode.

Do you have your DHCP server IP in the Trusted zone of your Zone Alarm Zones panel? If you don't know how to find the IP, here's how:

Finding DNS and DCHP servers, etc

    1. Go to Run type in command , hit 'ok', and type ipconfig /all then press enter. In the returned data list will be a line DNS and DHCP Servers with the IP address(s) listed out to the side.
    2. In ZA on your machine on the Firewall>Zones tab click Add and then select IP Address. Make sure the Zone is set to Trusted.
    3. Click OK and then Apply and see if that works to fix it.

If the two above solutions will not fix your problem, have you tried contacting AOL Tech Support?

PLEASE keep me posted on your results, THANKS.

In addition to Guru SlyFox's recommended ZASS configuration suggestions there are some other AOL software related issues that could be causing problems. Most of the newer AOL connection software (the separate add-on called the AOL Safety and Security Center, check to see what exact version you have) also includes security suite type of software with a limited type of firewall and an antivirus program that can conflict with other security suites like ZASS which have a full featured firewall and its own antivirus component. If the AOL connection software is causing the conflict (it depends on what version of AOL connection software you are using) then the AOL online tech support should be able to offer solutions to remove only the conflicting part of the AOL connection software so that you can continue to use ZASS and AOL without the program conflicts. Please post back in this forum with your results.
