Default VSMON Exe - Unable to use computer

Hi - I am new and inexperienced so I apologise if I have not done something that I should have done.

ZA - and VSMON exe - has locked up my computer. VSMON is using virtually 100% of the resources which does not allow me to follow the instructions from ZA (Click on ZA and disable "Open at Start up and then delete 'Internet Logs') I can't open ZA because it opens on start up and then VSMON.exe uses all the resources of the computer. Therefore the programme won't open for me to disable it. I can't do anything with the programme because it is 'active'

I have attempted to open 'msconfig.exe' to close it that way but this programme will not open.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Have you tried disabling it using task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete)

I have tried this but the computer will not allow it. The 'VSOM' on the list of processes in the task manager keeps moving around but it will not stop.

Is there anything else that I could do.

Tell us about ALL other malware/spyware/registry cleaners etc..that you are using or have installed on your machine?? Which antivirus program are you using??

    ..give this a shot.

Boot your computer into the Safe Mode

Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder

Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder

    Clean the Recycle Bin

    Reboot into the normal mode

ZA will be just like new with no previous settings or data

    This includes your password!

Failing this a clean uninstall/reinstall may be in order.

Disable the true vector engine (vsmon.exe)in the Services. Reboot.

Boot into safe mode (with networking)and once there enable the ZA and then disable the stratup with Windows and reboot.

OR if desperate, uninstall the ZA in the safe mode.

Possible causes of vsmon.exe going high:

    google desktop running from startup
unusual toolbars- anything from malware toolbars to some even like the eBay toolbar
two software firewalls running at the same time
antivirus or antispy with web/intrusion/worm guard/shield running
    security with site/cookie blocker
    P2P applications (occasionally)
remmants of the previously uninstalled firewall/antivirus
applications with server rights for the Internet Zone
    malware infection (especially trojans)
too many copies of the WSOCK32.DLL or leftover copies from other applications
    a LSP conflict
the ZA email client and the antivirus email client conflict-use only one and not both
    windows has not been updated
drivers of the PC need updating
    insufficent RAM or memory
a trojan in the Windows TCP stack- usually unseen by most trojan/antivirus scanners
    windows firewall is running
the latest version may have some issue and the 6.1 to the 6.5 versions maybe the better choice

    Best regards.
