Default ZA blocks peer-to-peer internet access.

I have set up a Wireless, Ad Hoc, Peer to Peer network between my desktop and laptop PCs so that I can access the ADSL internet connection on the desktop, from the laptop.

It works fine provided Zone Alarm is not installed on the desktop PC.
During installation of Zone Alarm on the desktop (not even active), the laptop's access to the internet is severed and it remains inaccessable until Zone alarm is uninstalled.During all this, Zone Alarm is running on the laptop without any problems.

Also internet access from the desktop PC is OK.
What can I do to protect my desktop PC.

    Please help.

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro x64
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro
    Software Version:7.0

    Hi

Has the laptop's address been added as trusted in the zones of the firewall of the desktop?

Has the laptop got the desktop, modem, gateway, DHCP and the DNS adrresses listed as Trusted in the zones of the firewall?

What firewall is on the laptop? The ZAFree? Then make sure the Internet Security Zone slider is at Medium and not High.

    Thanks Oldsod for the reply.

    To answer your questions:

Yes everything you mentioned has been done.

The firewall on the desktop was (and still is) Zone Alarm Pro 70.337.000.
I have finally installed an older version of Zone Alarm Pro (70.302.000 instead of 70.337.000) on the desktop and everything works smoothly.

Now I am afraid to accept the security upgrade, but will do so later.

    Hi sarelci

The sweetest ZA version for P2P is the 6.1.744.001 Beyond any doubt. That version is th best version for everything of all the 6.x versions that were available. It is not really out of date either.

I use this same version and so do many others. In fact I never re-newed the subscription and have no intentions of do so either. I will stick with this version for a long time.

    Best regards.
