Default MSN Messenger & IE7 Fail

This is strange if I start up with Zone Alarm set to auto launch. Messenger and IE 7 both Fail. As well If I try to get into my Network settings it just freezes. I am connected to the Internet because I am able to do IPCONFIG and all is well. I can also use other sogftware Direct Connect, Atom Time etc, which all connect no problem.
If I run the MSN Messenger self Test it gets to Proxy and just keeps going and going, never stops ofr resolves. It does say I am connected to the Internet, but there is a piece of this puzzle missing.
Now what's weird is if I don't have Zone Alarm auto start everything works fine, messenger ie7 no problem. Then if I launch Zone Alarm they keep working.
Anyone have any thoughts on what I need to fix this.
    Thanks.

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro
    Software Version:7.0

DO you have your DNS and DHCP servers in the trusted zone? Also do the IM clients have server internet rights?
