Default zone alarm can't be uninstalled; zone alarm shutting access to smartphone

My smartphone (win mobile 6) won't sync with my desktop.
It's identified, syncing starts, and usually is cut off halfway through.
MS says I still have zone alarm on my system, though I've uninstalled in months ago.
Today I re-installed it hoping for a better uninstall clean up.
Then did the search for the files listed in this forum and got rid of them.
    Registry was clean.
The only file found was zlictbl.dat.
I deleted that, emptied the recycle, rebooted.
    No go.
MS maintains I still have zone alarm.
What do I look for now?

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:7.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro

More than likely it is seeing some dead registry keys left over from the uninstall.

Look for and delete these keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Zone Labs

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\SharedDLLs\XXXXXX

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\ZoneAlarm Pro

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\minilog

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Zone Labs

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\InternetAl ert

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\ InternetAlert

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ZAMailSafe

    HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSMON
    HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSDATAN T

    HKLM\System\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSMON
    HKLM\System\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSDATAN T

Also look for the srescan in the controlsets and currentcontrol sets. srescan is the dll used by ZA for the spyscanner and it appears in all versions (free or paid)

Also make sure these folders have been removed:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\Zone Labs
    C:\Program Files\Zone Labs
    C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs
    C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Zone Labs
    C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\zonealarm

    and these files:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vsdata.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vsdatant.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vsmonapi.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vsnetutils.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vspubapi.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\vsutil.dll

And empty the contents of C:\WINDOWS\Temp

The registry clean up could be further enhanced by a freeware reg cleaner such as CCleaner>

Thanks very much for this help.
Zone Labs will be pleased to know that most of the files you indicated were already uninstalled.
Also very much thanks for CCleaner.
I ran two different Regclean packages, and both created a couple of problems (notably messing with my anti-virus pkg, Sophos)
I believe I have finally got the problem licked, although I think I'm going to uninstall active sync and reinstall it. (there's an unresolved new problem with the data sources syncing.
But would life be worth living if MS Windows actually worked?)
and am therefore thankful for your help.
IN case you missed the previous 2:
    THANK YOU!
    Final question:
Do the following reg entries have anything to do with Zone Alarm:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\VS_Breakpo intHitHKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels\VS_B uildCanceledHKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabel s\VS_BuildFailedHKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventL abels\VS_BuildSucceeded
    Or do the:
    HKEYClasses\...\VSS.VSScoordinator... VSS[nnn]keys have

    sorry.
    clicked mistake.
only reg keys left that have a question in my mind begin with syntax VSSnnnnn
IS VSS part of the VSMON nomenclature?

These are not related to ZA.

I believe these are related to Visual Studio.

Your PC should be clean of all ZA remmants.

I hope the reinstall works. It often does.

    Cheers,
