    Default New programs getting blocked without any alerts

    Hello....

    I am using free firewall ver. 7.0.462.000.

    I have just observed that new programs when added does not produce access alerts from zonealarm, instead they are getting blocked from internet access directly.

    I even tried manually adding it but it fails to get added in the program list.

    I removed one old program from the program control list and then again tried access for that old program but even that failed to produce alert and even that old program gets blocked now

    My program control has always been at medium level and never changed it.

    Its after a long time that I have added a new program in my pc and hence don't know since when this problem erupted.

    I have been a long ZA user since prob. 2-3 years and have never faced such a problem before.

    Can anybody help me here?

    Hi!what you mean your program control is set to medium?I can't see any medium settings in program control.To have outbound protection in ZA, ZA program control should be set to MAX.Also better you check your system to ensure you areclean from malwareYou can use the online scan at kaspersky: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanneror/and the standalone scanner by DrWeb: www.freedrweb.comZA may not work properly (recording progarm connection) if ZA settings are corrupted.ZA settings get corrupted for the following reasons:- crash/hang of the system- cold shutdown (improper shutdown)- malware infections- conflict with other tools installed on the systemIf your ZA settings are corrupted you can rectify the situation by resetting the ZA databases.This way:1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
    2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
    3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
    4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
    5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system

    Thanks fax for the prompt reply.

    I am using free Zonealarm firewall and not zonealarm Pro.

    In program control tab, in the Main tab, there are two options 1)Program Control 2) Automatic Lock.

    For Program Control, there are four options
    1) High - Reserved for Pro
    2) Medium - Programs must ask for Internet acces and server rights
    3) Low - Program control in learning mode
    4) off - Program control is off

    When I set this setting to off...then only new program is able to access internet.

    In the meanwhile, I am following your suggestion of checking your given link for malware detection.

    Thankfully, I didnot find any malware/virus during kaspersky online scanning.

    Your suggested method of resetting the ZA setting did the trick and now alls working fine....
