Default Upgrade stops Google calendar working properly

Since we upgraded ZoneAlarm firewall on 6 April (version:7.0.470.000) our Google calendar has stopped working properly, in both IE and Firefox. If we disable ZA, Google calendar works fine.

The main problem is that the calendar only shows events for the previous 7 days and next 7 days, and it's not possible to add, edit or repeat events if they are more than a week ahead. We can't edit Google calendar settings. Using Firefox, we often get a 'loading...' message at the top of the page, and it seems to hang in this state.

We have added google.com to the site list in ZA, but it makes no difference. Can anyone suggest a solution? Can we or should we reverse the upgrade?

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Try turning on the privacy advisor in ZA and see if it pops up. If you need to know how to use it, there is a page on my site.
My homes are SpywareHammer.com and DonHoover.net and BleepingComputer.com

Has any further progress been made on this? I have the same issue. Unfortunately I do not seem able to turn on the privacy adviser either. That check box reamains disabled, what ever I do.
I can get calendar working by using https, but this seems a bit of a cop-out at present, since it meanms the various links on Google will not work (they all obviously point to http)
Hope someone can help on this

    Hi!
if the checkbox remain disabled than I am afraid this is an indication that your ZA settings are corrupted.

To repair this problem, please follow the steps below. Please note that
this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make
note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.

1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

The above only works with latest version of ZA (7.0.462 onwards), if you are on a older ZA version please update to the latest (clean install).

    Cheers,

Thanks. I will try the reset.
I hope this is not going to be a frequent thing. I have only had Zone Alarm installed for about a week!

Once I have done that though, is it going to enable me to fix the main issue with the calendar?

Don't really know. Which version of ZA are you using? 7,6,5? 462, 470? VISTA, XP? ZAAS? ZAAV? ZAPRO?
Are you running other security tools? Registry tools? Is your machine stable? Crash/Hangs/infection of malware recently?

Difficult to give you more concrete suggestion without much information of your settings and versions.

    ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:7.0.473.000
    TrueVector version:7.0.473.000
    Driver version:7.0.473.000
    Anti-virus engine version:3
    Anti-virus SDK version:5.0.1.85
    Anti-virus signature DAT file version:954414171
    Anti-spyware engine version:5.0.189.0
    Anti-spyware signature DAT file version:01.200807.4195
    AntiSpam version:5.0.6.8903

No problems such as malware or virus on this system ever
Recently did a fresh XP installation, and re-install all apps. This was to ensure complete removal of Norton Security Suite. It had slowed the system so much as to become unusable.

Interestingly. Since resetting ZA, Google Calendar seems to be working correctly now. No need to go through https.

    Ho, hum...

    Hi!
ZA privacy control may be very tricky to setup and can cause issues on many sites.
I would recommend not to use it or to use it to block none bad/problematic sites and not block all sites except good ones. (I.e. blacklisting rather than whitelisting).

See here for a tutorial on how to use ZA privacy control and troubleshoot:
    http://zonealarm.donhoover.net/privacy.html

Usually ZA settings get corrupted if:
    - your system crashed/hang
    - cold shutdown (improper shutdown)
    - Malware infections
    - Running conflicting software

Not sure what to think now.
Calendar has stopped working properly again now (unless I use https).
All I did was to click the check box in the Privacy Advisor pop-up to stop it showing.
Before this however I looked to see if I could turn on Privacy advisor on a case-by-case basis, and I could not!! This immediately after the reset. So I thought perhaps if it was turned on globally maybe the option was not available. Anyway, I turned off the privacy advisor at the pop-up, and I still can't turn on the privacy advisor on a case-by-case basis, and Google calendar is now not working properly! (Thus I have never been able to turn the privacy advisor on/off individually, even after reset)

I am sure that my wife (whose computer this is) will not want to have the privacy advisor popping up on every web site just so that calendar works without https....

    Any other thoughts welcome.

    Hi!
I am not sure I can follow. Privacy advisor can only be enabled/disabled globally and not site-by-site.
If you have issues with website not displaying correctly you need to adjust the ZA privacy control for the site as indicated in the tutorial link given to you in my previous message. By tuning the ad-blocking, cookies control and mobile code.

You can also read the manual to better master the ZA privacy control. See here (pag. 143):
    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/me...ser_manual.pdf

    Hope this helps.
