What else is installed on the Vista, such as security or networking applications?
What was the previous firewall or previous security suite used prior to the ZA?

Myabe the previous kis is the problem. The ZA does use the kasperksy antivirus scanner.

    Uninstall the ZA.
First make sure the license has been saved by either written or typed into a file or note or both (desktop txt and actual physical paper).
    Uninstall the ZA this way:
    - Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs
    - RIGHT-click on Uninstall ZoneAlarm, then select Properties
    - Under Target you will see the following line:

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe"

    Change it to:

    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean /rmlicense

(first add a space and then type in the /clean /rmlicense)

Use the Apply and OK in that window.

Open the Zone Alarm and disable the "Load Zone Alarm .. at startup" in the Preferences of the Overview. Then reboot. Now the Zone Alarm is completely off and none of it's driver have not been started.

-Return to the Uninstall ZoneAlarm in the Zone Labs of the All Programs
    - Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that
    pop up.
    - say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files.
    - Reboot
    - manually remove the files found inside of these folders:[*]WINDOWS\ Internet Logs[*]Program Files\Zone Labs[*]WINDOWS\system32\ Zonelabs[*]</Windows\Temp folder[*] and the Temp folders found in the Document and Settings

    - reboot

Run the registry cleaner for kaspersky:

    http://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com...stry_Clean.zip

I am unsure if this is the correct cleanup tool for the latest version, but give it a try.
After finished using the tool, then reboot.

Next, make sure all hidden folders are shown:

    <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/hiddenfiles.mspx" target=_blank>http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...ddenfiles.mspx
    </a>

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial62.html

Next open the windws\system32\drivers folder and search for anything concerning kaspersky - klif, klin, etc and delete (check first to make sure it is a valid kasperky file by viewing all the information in the file's properties). Do not delete your keyboard drivers!

Next right click My Computer and select Manage, select Device Manager, then select "show hidden devices" in the View of the toolbar. Look into the Non-Plug and Play Drivers and if the file is not understood, then again open the properties of the items and some information will be found.
Note the number (this is a registry key) or the driver instance (in the windows root of the system in the registry) and promptly delete this in the registry - but only for any kaspersky drivers.

Next open the Network connections and open the Properties of each adapter seen. In the main view window - is there any mention of kaspersky or mention of a ndis driver?

Next open the Documents and Settings and open all accounts (both users and system), look carefully in all subfolders found the Application Data and the Local Settings.

Check the root of the main drive ( c drive) and look if there are any remaining files from kaspersky - delete, because the older kav 5 and 6 did leave a file here.

Open the Program Files and delete any remaining folder for Kaspersky.
Open the Common Files of the Program Files and search all folders and subfolder for Kapsersky.

Complete the manual search with a windows search for the entire drive using both kaspersky in both the file name and again in the file itself parameters. Also before beginning the search, open the more advanced options and check all found in that listing.
    then begin the search.

Next run the windows file disk cleanup utility.

Then download and run the CCleaner after this:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...ish_d4191.html

Delete all found in both the file and the registry cleaners.

next, download and run the Eusing_Free_Registry_Cleaner

    http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...r/1144217010/1

and download and run the abexo free registry cleaner:

    http://www.download.com/Abexo-Free-R...-10434887.html

    Now reboot.

    Now install the ZA.
Download the ZASS for Vista from here:

    http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html

Please do not use any web accelerators or download managers! to download the ZA installer. These will corrupt the ZA installer!

install the ZA and re-enter license key.

Should be okay now. We hope.
