Yes, lowering the Internet Zone Security setting from High to Medium is a temporary fix.

Same thing. So much for ZoneAlarm.

I had the same problem until I changed my firewall setting to medium from high. I can access the internet now.

I think that ZA needs to go growl at MicroSoft and find out how to fix the firewall to get around th

I'm going to lower my zone access as well.... and I only found this out after (a) using my Mom's *Vista* laptop to find that my modem is fine (after all, I'm in Lightning Alley, and *that* happens frequently) as well as turning OFF ZA to find that IT was the problem!

It's not just XP.
I'm using W2K and had the same problem.
The only Update Tuesday update that was applied to my system was the Malicious Software Removal Tool.
MickeySoft apparently screwed it up as far as ZoneAlarm is concerned.

This worked for me but only with security set at Medium. Still no internet access at the High setting.

Add one more to the party.

I too have had to move the Internet Zone slider to medium to get net access.

What's te consensus here? Uninstall the update or just sit tight for a bit and see if someone offeres up a proper fix?

Same problem.
Same workaround (lower Internet Zone Security to Medium.)
Occured after Microsoft Windows update (Malicious Software Removal, et al.)
Also noticed ZA update occured after the MS update.
Using registered, paid version of ZA Security Suite.
I'll wait for fix from ZoneLabs.
My experience is that whatever MS breaks, ZL can un-break. -ddw

My mistake.
I was also updated with
Security Update for Windows 2000 (KB951748).
The problem may be there.
Just as an addendum: the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830) is not on the Add/Remove Programs list in W2K.
KB951748 is.
I didn't remove it, but I did lower ZoneAlarm's Internet Zone Security
to medium.
So far, so good.

Had the same problem connecting to the internet; removing
the Win XP security
update KB951748 resolved the problem.
If you don't see the update listed in the "Add or Remove Programs" menu, check that you have the "Show updates" option checked - this option is located at the top of the "Add or Remove Programs" menu page.
Microsoft
simultaneously installed an "Update for Windows XP KB951978"
along with
the security update, but I did not need to uninstall this WinXP update.
