    Hi!
as you like... if you install MS patch before you need to set the ZA firewall to MEDIUM.
If you install it before... no.

    Cheers,

Most people, even non-techie's, know or have systems that are configured NOT to just auto apply updates. It's not like this is first time MS has pushed an update that causes problems. It's well past the 10th time. You should have seen the update that actually corrupted hard drives.
Also, perhaps it's time to consider what would have happened if you had to rely on Microsoft to fix what was THEIR screw up.
How could they NOT have known that this would happen- they know the market share of ZoneAlarm and the other firewall providers. Given that Windows XP firewall is inbound only, surely they must have tested this hotfix against the Firewall software suite(s) that account for 80% of the market?
Oh, and it's really tough to find much discussion on MS sites about this. There are a few of course, but it's tough to find a true MS person's answer...
I actually, overall, like Microsoft [ducks to avoid the flying bottles], but this is clearly another incredibly stupid thing they've done.

I hope MS finds and provides a fix for their apparent blunder. Does anyone have a idea if MS will get hot on fixing this issue?

Ditto--and we have abundant company. Our fix for two computers was to dump the infamous KB951748 as a temporary measure until ZA Sherlocks the problem, which they will. Also: Had what seemed to be an unrelated access problem on a third computer. However, since it occurred at the same time as 951748, it could be connected. Might also have been KB890830. Deinstalled ZA; did a clean reinstall of the latest version and all is working correctly after two reboots to doublecheck. Best of luck, all. Ah, technology. Beautiful, when it's working, and more exhausting than weeding an acre with one hand when it's not.

Default Versino 70.483 Upgrade still blocks Internet access

    I have
just completed the upgrade to version 70_483 that was suppose to fix the
    DNS internet access issue.

I found that after the upgrade it did not maintain the same security center settings for firewall and virus control.
It is still blocking the connections, according the the firewall log files when Internet Security setting is set to MAX.

Only when I set the Firewall Internet Zone Security setting down to Med can I regain internet acess, which is the same workaround as recommended before for the DNS issue.

Need to do some more testing!!
