Default Wake up ZA and get in to the office NOW! You've got a serious problem here.

Hi Guys, there is something not quite right going on with this so-called "fix".

I had the no internet access problem on Thurs so I did a system restore, got my access back and carried on working. At this point i didn't know what the problem was. At the end of the day I turned off my computer and, of course, it re-installed the hotfix. Next day: no access! So I hit system restore again to the same point as before and got my access back. Then I got the notification from ZA with the upgrade and downloaded and installed it. No problems, access good. Then I re-installed the hotfix. No problems, access good.

It has been working perfectly up until Sat night when I turned my computer off. This am (Sun 13th) I switch it back on again and... NO ACCESS!! Over the last 6 hours I've tried everything you can imagine: system restore, uninstall ZA, re-install ZA, uninstall the hotfix, re-install the hotfix, disable ZA, etc, etc. I've just about had enough!!

It's not my computer or router or internet connection, it's their software **bleep**-up. Something is still not right with this compatibility problem and it needs SORTING!! I've tried ZA's so-called email "support" but they just log it and say I'll get a reply within 2 - 3 days!!

At the end of the day, ZA's software is corrupting my and many others' computers. They should be in the office, sorting it out and supporting their customers NOW!

Thanks for listening, I feel better now.

Thanks fax, I've done that already. I can't wait 2-3 days though! I just thought I'd come here and see if any techie bods had any suggestions other than the "fix" that doesn't work - or works for a day and a half and then stops. Someone somewhere must know a man who knows a nerd, surely?!

Hi!I can offer you a solution that usually covers most of the ZA issue. You need to completely remove ZA and then reinstall. Please note that ZASSDO NOTplay nice with many other security tools including SpywareDoctor, SpySweeper, Adware, SpybotS&D, Threatfire, other antivirus, other antispyware. Beforeproceeding remove any of theabove and install back (if you really need to) only after you see that ZA works as it should.First remove ZASS from XP add/remove programs then:01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
10.) Click OK
11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
> ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
possible.

14.) Close this window
15.) Click Start, My Computer
16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs
folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.

21.) Locate and delete the following files in the System32 folder if they are
present:

- vsconfig.xml
- vsxml.dll
- vsregexp.dll
- vsdata.dll
- vsdata95.vxd
- vsdatant.sys
- vsmonapi.dll
- vspubapi.dll
- vsinit.dll
- vsutil.dll
- vswmi.dll
- zlcommdb.dll
- zlcomm.dll
- z llictbl.dat
- zpeng24.dll

22.) Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.

- Go to Start -> Run
- Type %temp% and click OK
- Select all of these files and delete them

23.) Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below.

- Go to Start -> Run
- Type Prefetch and click OK
- Select all of these files and delete them

24.) Remove the following registry entries by going to Start -> Run and
typing in regedit. Use the folders on the left side of the window to navigate
to the specified directories.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.27.) Re-download the latest ZASS installer (no download managers): HERE28.) Install and keep ZA at defaults do not modified them. Reboot after install and update AV/AS signature

Fax, now that's what I call a little ray of sunshine! Good advice! I'll go to the dead desktop and give it a go right now. I'll report back and let you know the outcome. Many thanks.

Not a jot of difference! Thanks anyway Fax, but it's still the same.

For your info, there was no Zonelabs folder in the system32 folder, and also in system32 folder I could only find and delete **bleep**.dat

I also couldn't find these two files: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

Everything else went like clockwork but I still have the same problem. (

There has to be a simple solution like a corrupt or missing file somewhere, but how the heck do you find it??

Ah well, it's 7pm in Estepona, sunny Spain and I'm going to have a dip in the pool and a well-earned vodka and tonic!

Thanks again and if anyone else has any suggestions please feel free to join in.

Cheers, Steve

Slight variant on broader issue. After uninstalling MS KB951748 I successfully accessed the Internet.

I installed ZA "fix", rebooted and had nothing but problems. True Vector would not shut down: vsmon.exe, scanningprocess.exe each simultaneously over 40%+ cpu each...effectively locking the computer from doing anything.

Machine was so clogged it would not System Restore.

Ultimate fix that worked for me was reboot in Safe Mode and uninstall this week's new "fixed" ZA and reinstall my original 7.0.483.000, then instruct WU to not reinstall KB 951748.

No issues in 48+ hours since doing so.

Yes, I've tried this on numerous occasions after uninstalling ZA. (Windows firewall active and also turned off). And I tried it straight after uninstalling as per your instructions as well, before I re-installed ZA. Still no good!

The perplexing thing is that this morning, after my loss of internet, I system restored back to a point before the original download of the MS hotfix which gave me my connection back on Thursday and this didn't work either!

I know with computers anything can happen but it's just too much of a coincidence to start suspecting another problem. And if I did suspect something else, where the heck do I start to look?

Hang on! As we speak I'm doing a virus scan on the offending machine and it's just thrown up an "infection found" message. Hmmm, curiouser and curiouser! It's still got a long way to go so I'll let it run and see what else comes up.

Salud to you too.

Steve
