I have recently installed ZoneAlarm SecuritySuite (after finally giving Norton the flick).
However I am having a problem where ZoneAlarm intermittently blocks FTP uploads. I am a Web Developer and am constantly uploading entire websites to webservers so this is unacceptable.
Curiously it doesn't happen with images (binary files).
Here is what happens:
I queue up a mixed list of files to be uploaded.
The majority of files will upload without problem, but the queue will freeze on a particular ASCII file - it might be .php or .htm or .css.
Eventually a 0 byte file will be uploaded.
If I delete the 0 byte file and try again, the same thing will happen.
If I disable ZoneAlarm and try again - the entire queue will upload without problem.
I have tried several FTP clients (FileZilla, FireFTP, CuteFTP) and they are not the issue.
I have tried switching between active and passsive modes.
I have tried giving the FTP clients full permissions within ZASS's "Program Control" but it still happens.
I have tried tweaking the firewall level but it doesn't make a difference.
The randomness of this problem worries me - it seems to be random ASCII files that get blocked.
Hopefully someone has an idea that might help. I dont want to go back to Norton - but I there's no point having ZA if I have to turn it off for 50% of the day.
