Thread: Zone Alarm 8.0.59.0 Trial Won't Update

    Default Zone Alarm 8.0.59.0 Trial Won't Update

    Help!

    I downloaded the free trial of Zone Alarm version 8.0.59 five days ago and have not been able to update no matter what I do.
    When I try to update, the "Update Progress" box pops up and after a few seconds it says:

    ! System couldn't connect to server ('http://upd.zonelabs.com/zonealarm/online/Catalog.zip')

    I tried updating manually by going to the url above and tried to manually download the file but got the message:

    Bad data found at the end of the zip file

    I have read dozens of forum posts about similar issues the past five days and have tried all of the following. Still, I can't get UPDATE to work:

    1) Uninstalling and reinstalling Zone Alarm
    2) Adding upd and other urls to trusted zone
    3) Adding upd and other files to trusted programs
    4) Removed all other firewalls
    5) Disabled Windows firewall
    6) Used all suggestions at http://www.zonealarm.com.au/main/kb_...asp?KBID=11433

    Here is the info about my computer and ZA version:

    Operating System: Windows XP Pro
    Version: 2002 Service Pack 3

    Product Name: ZoneAlarm Stub Program for ZAPro (TRIAL VERSION)
    Version: 8.059.0

    to the Zone Alarm User Forum..It sounds like your ZA Database may be corrupted.

    ZA has incorparated a new way to Reset DataBase files so users don't need to go into Safe mode.


    To repair this problem, please follow the steps below. Please note that
    this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want to make
    note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.

    1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together then

    2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock in the system tray lower right corner
    3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
    4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
    5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
    6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

    I did what you suggested twice. I still get the message

    "couldnt connect to server."

    But since you asked me to reset ZA, all the things i tried before have now been undone.

    What next??
