I hope someone can help me, as I was trying to help a friend and it seems to be worse.

He couldn't access the internet when trying to set up a new router and I noticed he had an old version of ZA. I remember the MS Update issue and reduced the security level to Medium on the Firewall part of the program. The internet worked fine when I did this so I downloaded the latest version and installed it as an upgrade.

When the computer restarted it wouldn't connect to the internet, even if I shut it down.

Things I've tried:

Uninstalling ZA and deleting ZA regiostry keys.
Reinstalling it to see if it reopairs whatever it's done.
Ran Winsockfix.

Nothing has helped and he's still got no internet access.

I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows. The internet definitely works as his laptop connects wirelessly fine. His Ethernet connection gets an ip address from the router, and I can load the configuration pages of the router in the browser.

It's the same for both IE and Firefox.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
