Default Firefox and ZoneAlarm not playing well together

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium, FireFox 3.0.10, and ZoneAlarm Security Suite 8.0.298.035.
FireFox hangs on me on a regular basis, and I am unable to kill the firefox.exe process from the Task Manager window.
On the FireFox forums they seem to think that because the process can't be killed, this "shows that the process is hanging in some kernel mode and since Firefox doesn't install kernel mode drivers it can't be Firefox fault."
I'm looking for a fix for this issue.
I love ZoneAlarm as my firewall and I prefer to use FireFox as my browser, and I'd like to see them playing well together so I can continue with my preferred setup.
    TIA,Ell

    Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
    Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite
