    Default Uninstall of Zonealarm

I have a windows Vista Home Premium laptop that i put the free ZoneAlarm on. The install was somehow flawed because it was permanently set at internet lock and there was no way to turn it off. So i uninstalled it. Now i can access the internet, but Windows security center still reports it as running. I have tried every way posted to completely uninstall and yet it still is there. It is causing problems with some of my other programs that use the internet. If any one can help that would be great. Thanks

    Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
    Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

You obviously have missed some registry files to be removed therefore ZA is still running on your computer. Did you go through the instructions I had previously posted for you? PLEASE check your registry, PLEASE make sure you back it up first prior to making any changes in there. There has to be one or more registry keys that you missed, that need to be removed. Have you tried CCleaner to clean up any leftover traces of ZA?

    PLEASE follow these exact instructions.

********NOTE: REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY, BEFORE MESSING AROUND WITH ANYTHING IN THERE. IN CASE SOMETHING SHOULD GO WRONG, AT LEAST YOU CAN GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SETTINGS.

Click on Start, then Search or Find, and select Files. Make sure that the location box is set to search your Local Hard Drive (usually C or All Local Drives). XP users, set advanced search options to search ALL Files and Folders!

    *****NOTE******

a.) You need to be on an Admin Account.

b.) If you navigate to it, you will need to set Windows Explorer options to all ALL files and folders.

c.) If you search for it, you will need to set Advanced search options to search ALL files and folders.

Type the following exactly - delete any folders found:

    vsconfig.xml

is a ZA file. Do NOT delete this file unless it is a Zone Labs file!)

GLB*.* (delete any of these that you find in any of your TMP or
    TEMP folders)

Type the following exactly - delete any files found in any folder
    with "Programs" in the pathname):

    zapro
    zonealarm

Ok, i followed that step by step but it would not let me delete HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSMON
    HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSDATAN T.
would there be a reason for that?

Go back to that key in the registry amd right click it and open Permissions. Check the two boxes in the left hand column and apply and OK. Now the key will delete. The key will not initially delete becasye this is pasrt of windows self protection of vital areas of the registry. Only a human hand can make the permission, not malware or rogue applications.

I have some of the same problem as the original poster to this thread, Zebracakes. ZoneAlarm (for Vista) has been uninstalled from my machine. Yet the Windows Security Center, in the Firewall area, still reports that ZonaAlarm is installed and running.

Vista says "multiple firewalls report that they are turned on". When I click on the link for "Show me the firewall programs on this computer", the resulting pop-up box for "Installed firewall programs" reports that "ZoneAlarm Firewall" is "On".... as if.

I've followed all of the instructions regarding the manual deletion of stray files and registry entries as indicated (Thanks, SlyFox!). Surprisingly, I found that most of the files and registry entries were already clean. There were only two registry issues that remained, namely " HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSDATAN T " and " HKLM\System\ControlSet002\Enum\Root\LEGACY_VSDATAN T ". I thought for sure that removing these two issues would certainly solve the problem". No luck.

The Vista Security Center still thinks ZoneAlarm is both installed and turned on. It seems that the cause of this issue must be buried rather deeply. One might ask, "why does he even care?" It could be that my medication hasn't kicked in yet. Does anyone have any fresh ideas?
