Default Pop-up box says "zlsSetup_70_408_000_en.exe is not a valid Win32 application"

X-(Today I uninstalled my ZASS because I just couldn't take
    it
    anymore.
A little over a week ago, I started having problems with it that I've seen people listing here - scanning just about every time I turned on the computer (had to shut it down manually a few times because the scan never seemed to end, just went on and on), and not being able to update the Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware.
I came here, I read, and decided I don't understand all this well enough
to be fooling around with it.
    Unfortunately,
    a "geek" I'm not (.
So, I uninstalled ZASS, and downloadedthe free ZA Firewall.
    It seemed that all was
    well, and I
    was happy again.
Then, as I was about to go
    download an anti-virus program,
an alert(or whatever you call it) popped up.
It said a security update was needed, do I want to download now?
It seemed strange that it wouldn't have downloaded the current ZA Firewall,
but I clicked and it started.
    It was supposed to
take over 2 hours to download.
    I
checked on it about an hour later, and the box (the one that shows the
% that's already downloaded) was gone.

I went to my documents file, and there
was a file that said "zlsSetup_70_408_000_en.exe".
That made me kind of nervous because that's the version I had of the ZASS, but I tried to run it anyway.
It didn't say anything about install, that's why I clicked run.
A box popped up that said the aforementioned file was "not a
valid Win32 application", so I backed out.
Can somebody tell me what's going on here?
    Was I duped?
Should I just leave the free
    firewall as is?
    Isn't that risky?
    Please someone, help
    - because I'm about ready to put this whole computer through the window, and I really can't afford to do that.

    Hi,Welcome to the Forum!SOLUTION - I get an invalid Win32 application error

You are getting this error because the setup file you downloaded from the web is incomplete. You need to delete the file you downloaded. Clear your recycle bin once you have deleted it. Go to ZoneAlarm (FREE)
http://www.zonelabs.com/zadownload and download the latest update. Once you have downloaded the update ensure the size of the file is the same as the actual size of the file. This should resolve the problem.

Are you using any type of "Web Download Accelerators"? If you are, PLEASE turn them off, as they will cause problems downloading with Zone Alarm.

Hopefully the above two solutions will fix your problem, if not PLEASE post back, THANKS.

    Thanks for the help SlyFox :8}

I deleted the downloaded file, emptied the recycle bin, and used your link back to zl.
But, the only thing I see to click on for the free firewall is the same one I clicked on earlier today, and is running on my system now.
At least it says it is.
    It seems to be....
It says it is file version 5.2.3790.0.

    In the "other version information"
box below that, it says it is file version 7.1.087.000.
Wouldn't that be newer than the
problem 408 one, which was the so-called "update" one they wanted me to download?
And I still don't understand why they would have you download the firewall, then 30 minutes later tell you you need an update?
Why wouldn't the free download be the latest version?
I'm getting loster and loster, and
    feeling really DUMM!
    ................
Oh yeah, I'm not using a Web Download Accelorator.

    Hi, I'm baaaack.
I took your advice and used the links, but I don't think they pertain to my situation.
    I'm really
    not trying to be difficult.
My family is always saying I give too much detail, so I tried to keep it simple in my
    postings.
However, I see the need for detail, so here goes.
    1)
    I bought my ZASS
directly from the ZA website in
2006, and just renewed for a year
    this past
    August - directly through
    them.

    2)

After the most recent update I started having the problems I posted here.
    3)
I came to the forum and read.
    4)
I decided to just uninstall the ZASS because most of what I read here was beyond me.
But, as I started to do that, a box popped up that

said "Do you want to switch over to the free firewall?"

    I clicked "Yes".
    5)
Shortly after switching over, I'm told I need a security update.
    6)
To save my fingers, the following
    is from my first posting.
"It said a security update was needed, do I want to download now?
It seemed strange that it wouldn't have downloaded the current ZA Firewall,
but I clicked and it started.
    It was supposed to
take over 2 hours to download.

It didn't say anything about install, that's why I clicked run.
A box popped up that said the aforementioned file was "not a
valid Win32 application", so I backed out.
Can somebody tell me what's going on here?
    Was I duped?
Should I just leave the free
    firewall as is?
    Isn't that risky?
    Please someone, help
    - because I'm about ready to put this whole computer through the window, and I really can't afford to do that."
    7)
As far as I can tell, this free
    version
ZA switched me to is fine - the blocked intrusions count keeps going up.

    8)
My anti-spyware program is Ad-Aware, and my anti-virus is Avast (installed yesterday).
Avast warned me about the potential problems with the ZA firewall, but
I'm not having any particular problems downloading pages from the internet, etc.
I will be adding one more anti-spyprogram, but I haven't decided yet which one.
Do you think I'm good to go, SlyFox?

Default Now I'm good to go!

Hi SlyFox,I managed to download and install
the "408" update, complete this time.

Thanks so much for your help and patience.
It seems to me that keeping an eye on this forum would be a wise thing for me to do - old dogs can learn new tricks.
