Tips: For first time users of ZoneAlarm - 1-
Have you properly un-installed any previous firewall and/or anti-virus?? = this needs to be done - click here &gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...message.id=154
. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed (trial)
security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZoneAlarm firewall product.
Use any special &quot;Removal Tool&quot; if available. [ SuperTip: if you have used any free trial/ pre-installed
security software &gt; please be sure to cancel your account.] This is an
important step to follow.

{ if you are only installing ZA Free, ZA Pro - you only need to un-install any previous firewall; keep any other brand of 'stand-alone' anti-virus software you want; you will need to un-install firewall and anti-virus only if you want to install ZoneAlarm Internet Suite, ZoneAlarm Extreme Security and ZoneAlarm AntiVirus firewall products. }<hr>2 - do not
you use any download managers or web accelerators( often used with dial-up) = [these conflict with ZA
= should not be used] during ZA install - temporarily shut them 'off.'<hr>3 - please list other security software -
ex. - anti-spyware: Webroot Spysweeper, PCTool's SpywareDoctor - ThreatFire, CounterSpy Vipre, Windows Defender,
Lavasoft Ad-Aware,
etc.= these should be shut-off/ shut-down
prior to installing
ZA;
monitoring/performance software - system mechanics, norton utilties/ backups/ ghosts.[ Sometimes you will need to 'un-install' these security software, first before attempting ZA install {SpywareDoctor, SpySweeper } For some users they needed to un-install them first and then - able to install ZA. ]<hr>4 - did you use Microsoft Internet Explorer
<strike> 6 </strike>/ 7/ 8
or Firefox or others to download? Internet Explorer <strike>6</strike>/ 7/ 8
is preferred
. &lt;&lt;&lt; May have better results, if you temporarily use IE <strike>6</strike>/ 7/ 8
for downloading any ZoneAlarm firewall product.
<hr>5 - in your web browser - if it has security &gt; trusted zone/ site list and pop-up blocker settings - adjust -
add &quot;download.zonealarm.com&quot; to safe/trusted-site/whitelist

and of any pop-blockers software you may haveTo use this ZoneAlarm Forum - you may need to Allow 3rd party cookies, and you should be able
to access the Forum now. (3rd party cookies are required due to our use of a host (nohold.net) and several domain names for the Forum). &gt;
http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...;message.id=68<hr><hr>Tips for installing or upgrading/ updating to ZoneAlarm: <hr>[*]*
when you update your version
you will have two options:
&quot;Upgrade&quot; or &quot;Clean Install."You
should try the "upgrade" method first; if you have any difficulties, then
use therecommended &quot;clean install" option.[*][*]or better, un-install the current old version and then install the new version.<hr>
You can try this: just prior to new downloading attempt, on your current/ old
ZA
&gt; go to &quot;Overview&quot; &gt; Preferences &gt; General - &quot;uncheck the box for&quot; = 'Load ZoneAlarm at startup' &gt; click once, wait - it may take a few
seconds for it to register, but it will clear the box.[*]
Please restart/ reboot. &lt;[*][*]&gt;
Now, download and install your new version/ upgrade. Unloading the current/ old version will ensure less conflicts between the old version and new version; after install you will have to re-start your pc. { This is a Super Tip - that will help prevent some 'true vector issues/ vsmon.exe' on upgrades/ updates }<hr>

Try the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool, link below:<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>
<ul>

Click here &gt; http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exeSave to desktop, right click and &quot;run as administrator&quot;
This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system. (ZoneAlarm firewalls and ForceField)

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions. <hr>[*]You may wish to un-install your current old version; before installing the new upgrade version.<hr>[*][*]

The following un-install directions will completly remove ZoneAlarm
from your computer.

Be sure to have the latest version of ZoneAlarm downloaded and saved to your computer and your license key available so that you can re-install after following these directions.[*]

1. Open the ZoneAlarm program, go to the 'Overview' -&gt; 'Preferences' tab, and make sure the &quot;Load ZoneAlarm At Startup&quot; box is &quot;Un-Checked.&quot;

2. Close the program, then right-click on the ZA icon and select 'Shutdown.'

3. Reboot your computer.

4. After your computer has rebooted ZoneAlarm will no longer be loaded.

5. - Click on Start -&gt; Programs -&gt; Zone Labs/ or ZoneAlarm
6. - RIGHT-click on &quot;Uninstall Zone Labs Security&quot;, then select 'Properties'
- Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive letter
may
be different on your system):[*]

7. - Change it to:

pop up.
11. - say &quot;Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files.
12. - Reboot
13. -
Now you can re-install the latest version of ZoneAlarm if you wish.[*]&gt;
Now, download and install your new version/ upgrade. Unloading the current/ old version will ensure less conflicts between the old version and new version; after install you will have to re-start your pc.<hr>[*]

* [ Special Note: if your updating from 6x series or earlier - you most probably need to use un-install instructions especially for those with ZA anti-virus = ZA Suite and ZA Anti-virus - upgrading from CA av to new Kaspersky anti-virus - this needs un-installing: Please see/ click here:[*][*]Click here &gt; http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...ssage.id=86306

Had a problem with 8.0.015.000. Just a glitch. So I got in touch with ZA andthey e-mailed me procedures, however before I followed their suggestionsI downloaded 8.0.020.000 and installed it. The problem with 8.0.015.000 andthe constant updating is gone, and 8.0.020.000 is working okay. Just apositive note.

ZAAV 8.0.59.0 installation process worked fine on a HP Workstation XW4100 32 bit WXPP SP3.

However, after reboot and login with Administrator rights, the system takes more than 10 minutes before any but the very few first processes start as seen with Sysinternals Process Explorer version 11.20.

Then more proceses start, including the process running VSMON.EXE by ZAAV.

The process running VSMON.EXE keeps on crashing with a memory dump in the &quot;Internet Logs&quot;
directory; sometimes the dump is brief and sometimes full.
The process is continously restarted and crashing with a process dump at an interval of about 1 second. These event are visible also in the system event log file:

Source: Service Control Manager Type: Error Event ID: 7034
The TrueVector Internet Monitor service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1051 time(s).

This goes on for hours.

During this ZA blocks all TCP/IP access, both ingoing and outgoing.

I have tried both &quot;upgrade&quot; and &quot;clean&quot; installations including deleting all files in the &quot;Internet Logs&quot;
directory. Still with the same behaviour.

This behaviour is clearly unacceptable.:robotmad:

For now I have reverted to ZAAV 7.0.483.0, which works fine.

Is there a solution?

Default Re: New ZoneAlarm 8.0.059 version for Vista and XP >>>> Major Problem

Hi GeorgeV,

Thank you for the advice on how clean up.
I was not aware of the /clean switch with the uninstall of ZA.

However, before writing the first time, I had already done most of what you suggested, as there clearly was a problem with getting ZAAV 8.0.59.0, the latest available form the list of downloadable version, to run properly.

I have today again retried a clean installation, removing all of the previous ZAAV 7.0.483.0, the latest available version 7. The only remaining entry in the registry was the license key. On your suggestion, I used Ccleaner to remove any leftover files and registry entries.

The installation seems to go well with no (visible) errors, just as previously. The ZAAV installation procedure gives no indication of potential problems. Indeed, the installation is very similar to that of the version 7, which goes well all the way including through reboot.

However, after reboot of ZAAV, 8.0.59.0, the VSMON.EXE encounters an error resulting in a memory dump. VSMON is subsequently restarted by the system, as intended by ZA, but again it crashed from a condition that does not allow continued execution. VSMON is restarted within about a second. This repeats forever, although there seems to be a handling of the dump files, so old one are cleared and packed to .zip or .old, when the number of dumps reach 10.
Should these be of interest, I may email them. Please note that they are about 27 MB altogether.

The very first error occurs when the system has started the minimum number of processes, similar to what you get when using MSCONFIG to select the minimum setting/selection. The error is that TrueVector hangs at startup, i.e., it does not start properly within the specified time.

Indeed, I started the system with that minimum configuration, which does not start ZA or the VSMON process by default.
Manually executing zlclient.exe, however, again results in the behaviour as described above. This does not happen with ZAAV 7.0.483.0, the most recent.

It is not possible to use zlclient.exe to set anything, as it does not create an accessible window, even when manually started.

Without a resolution, it is not possible to upgrade to ZAAV version 8 on this system

OK, technical won't happen but this forum,my first ,did enlighten me.
I tried to install the newest upgrade 4 days ago and the info with it said it would be best to do a clean install, &quot;WRONG&quot;!
This shut down the Vector service and my connection (brand new 'puter) and on the ZA icon (bottom right of page) it said ZA was working with UI initializing.
Windows continuously popped up with the VS not working, will shut down app and windows will get back to me with a solution, RIGHT!

What a major conflict!!!
Since I'm not so technical (can ya tell) I had to use my recovery discs and start from scratch.
Hmmmmmmm.
should I reinstall the new ZA, I have found somj VS solutions here this AM but ......................I do need an answer/solution that is easy for me to follow/use!!!
