    Default Validation failed for C;\windows\system32\VSINIT.dll

I have been running XP and recently upgraded to Vista, I did not use the clean install on the Vista. I had been running ZASS without problem for a long time. I cannot find bundled security software with the exception of the Windows One Care. I run registry mechanic also.

I was having problems with ZA (I couldn t find it after the upgrade) so I uninstalled and downloaded the program. It won t install and I get numerous error messages the first being Validation failed for C;\windows\system32\VSINIT.dll After the program tries to install it calls for a reboot which hangs up. If I reboot manually ZASS shows in the add\remove program area but nowhere else as if it wasn t there?

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Forum!

Are you using any type of "Web Download Accelerators" or "Download Managers"? If you are, PLEASE turn them off, as they will cause problems downloading with Zone Alarm. Also, PLEASE use Internet Explorer as your browser for downloading ZA.

If the above solution does not fix your issue, PLEASE go to the following threads and PLEASE keep me posted on your results, THANKS.

Hi Steve,First of all, NEVER EVER Post your Email Address on this Forum, as we have Spam Bots that look for email addresses. Therefore ending up with a lot of SPAM in your email box.In reference toyour issue. PLEASE complete the following solution. You are getting a validation failed message with vsinit.dll

    Solution:

In order to protect our software client from being tampered with, we digitally sign our dll s. Every time a dll is loaded, we check if it has our certificate.

In order to do certificate checking, the machine needs to have a root certificate on it. If the root certificate in missing, we can t validate the dll and the client will not start.

We have determined that on systems with a validation error the root certificates were missing.

The ZoneAlarm client has nothing to do with any kind of certificate removals and we can only assume that something malicious has removed them from effected machines.

The following 4 STEPS will fix your system if followed very closely.

    STEP1: UNINSTALL ZONEALARM

Please follow the steps below to manually uninstall ZoneAlarm from your system. Please make sure to follow the steps for whichever operating system you may have. After ZoneAlarm is uninstalled, please make sure you have all of the Windows Updates installed and run a complete virus scan on your system to make sure there is not a virus on the system. You can run a free virus scan from the link below.

Still trying to chew through most of this forum with this problem "validation failed for vsinit.dll" (also for "vsutil.dll&quot. I tried both of your repair steps here (steps 2 and 4) but those files are still missing, and of course that means I still cannot install Zonealarm on Vista. Any other suggestion to get these necessary files?

(I'm a different Steve than the original post) I am getting the same error message and followed the steps in your solution. However, when I tried to reinstall the program (ZoneAlarm Pro 6.1.737.000)
using the link you provided, there was not a link to download my version--only a link for version 8.0. When I tried to download it, I got the following message: "You have ZoneAlarm Pro 6.1.737.000 currently installed on your computer which cannot be upgraded. Please uninstall ZoneAlarm Pro and restart the ZoneAlarm Pro installation."

http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_1welcome.gif to the Zone Alarm User Forum..

This issue is related to ZoneAlarm version 6.5 and below ONLY.

As of 7/15/09 if your running any ZoneAlarm product version 6.5 or Below.

You may recieve the following error message:

Validation failed for C:\Windows\system32\VSINIT.dll. You probably are missing a necessary root certificate,

Thiscouldbe followed by the same message but for vsdata.dll.

    Solution:

ZoneAlarm 6.5 or below can no longer function.

Uninstall your version of ZoneAlarm and if you have a valid genuine ZoneAlarm licnese key in good standing you will need to upgrade and download version 8.0.400.020

Note: Windows ME, 98, 98se and Windows 2000are not supported in version 8.0
