Default Can't install ZA on Vista

I've been trying for several hours to install ZA on Vista Home Premium. I'm using the Vista Version 71.....

It gets to 6% install and locks up. I'm getting tired of rebooting. I've been through the forum and tried the recommendations that I've found. The only thing I haven't done is disable Vista firewall. I need something until I get ZA working.

    Any Ideas?? Help

Several things youSHOULD do Before you install MS Vista.. or ZA for Vista. (if you already have VISTA installed, Skip over this part and go to # 3 below)1.) Make a Current Clone or Image Backup of your Current Stable WinXP Setup..either to a second HD, External USB-2 HD or to CD/DVD's.. (so you have a way to Recover, just in case you scew things up..)It would also be a Good Idea when you have installed MS Vista and have a Stable setup under Vista to make another Backup or Clone of the Vista Setup just to be on the safe side, before adding any new programs to Vista..Here is instruction for Image Backup using Acronis True Image v10, however Both WinXP and Vista include a Backup Utility..http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs...message.id=1592.) Download and Run Microsoft's Vista Compatibility Analyzer, and Update or Delete any software that is not compatible with Vista, before installing VISTA..http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...p;mg_id=20409b3.) All Versions of Zone Alarm, Other than the three NEW ZA Vista Versions released June 14, 2007 are NOT compatible with VISTA and MUST be Uninstalled with the CLEAN Uninstall method before installing VISTA..WARNING!!! If you have any version of Zone Alarm Installed BEFORE you install MS VISTA, you MUST Clean Uninstall Zone Alarm BEFORE you Install MS Vista.. Here is the Instructions for Clean Uninstall of Zone Alarm..http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs...message.id=103Then you should Clean out the Junk files, Recycle Bin and Cashe with the Free ccleaner.exe Program from the link below..http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_S...bar_d4191.htmlGet the New Zone Alarmfor Vista files here..http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/pr...ta/index5.html
4.) if you have any other Security programs Like NAV, or Norton Internet Security Suite, or any other AV or Firewall programs, you need to uninstall them.. to be on the safe side.. 5.) if removing Any Symantec or Norton Programs.. ADD/Remove is not good enough, you must also go to Symantec Web site and download their "Norton_Removal_Tool.exe" to remove all traces of Symantec/Norton files that may conflict with the NEW ZA for Vista..This is just my 2 cents worth,If your having problem installing ZA Anti-Virus or ZA Security Suite and have ever uninstalleda previous installation of Norton Systemworks or Norton AntiVirus, when you use ADD/Remove to Remove any of Symantec Norton utilities, especially their Norton Anti-Virus program, they still leave lots of traces behind after the "UNINSTALL"Fortunately SYMANTEC has a Fix for this problem on the Symantec web site called "NORTON REMOVAL TOOL" that does a better job of REMOVING ALL traces of Norton Symantec files..here is the Link to the Symantec Norton Removal Tool..http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...ent&seg=hmHere is the Link to McAfee Removal Tool..http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocumen...64&lc=1033
Affected Operating Systems:

Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Windows XP Home
Microsoft Windows Vista
[/list]

NOTE: This tool is not compatible with Microsoft Windows 98 or ME.Here is another Forum Link to more information http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs...message.id=154Good Luck...---------------------------------------

I received this computer with Vista on it. I've already tried everything on the list from #3 down to no avail(does anyone say avail anymore?)several times.

    Still locks up.

I'll see what I can do.

This is a new computer for me and came installed with Windows Vista Home Premium

    System:
    AMD Athlin(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.20 GHz
    2046 MB RAM
    32-bit

This is a first time new install of ZA. I'm trying to install the Vista version (ie. 71....etc) NOT the XP version.

I've run the Norton Uninstaller to be sure there was nothing like that previously on it.

It came with Trend Micro anti virus and firewall which I've uninstalled. It also has Webroot Spy Sweeper, and of course Windows Defender. The problem isn't that it won't run. It just won't install - period.

When I start the install, I get the standard screen show the progress. The little bar gets to 6% and then another screen pops up saying "Initializing: Verifying installed components. Please note: Installation may take several minutes to complete."

This is as far as it gets. The computer is now locked up and never gets any further. I can not even ctrl+alt+del to get out. I have to hold in the power button until it shuts off.

I've had great success with ZA on my computers with XP, but Vista has me stumped and frustrated.

. Most new pc/laptops come with pre-installed security software, which should be properly un-installed prior to installing any ZA firewall product.
2 - did you use any download managers or web accelerators( often used with dial-up) = [these conflict with ZA
= should not be used]? during ZA install
3 - please list other security software -
ex. - anti-spyware: Spysweeper, SpywareDoctor, CounterSpy, SpyCatcher, Windows Defender,

    monitoring/performance software - system mechanics, norton utilties/ backups/ ghosts
4 - did you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/ 7 or Firefox or others to download? IE 6/ 7 is preferred. <<< Better results, if you temporarily use IE 6/ 7 for downloading any ZoneAlarm firewall product.
Just One, Not Two -- Never use two software firewalls at the same time. I am currently running ZASS for Vista (7.1.078)...
Do I need to "uninstall" my purchased version before installing the
    updated "Beta" version?

Yes.. You can Just Install the New ZASS Beta 7.1.218 for Vista over the ZASS 7.1.078 as an UpgradeI would Recommend First that you go into Overview/Preference and Un-Check "load ZA on startup" and Reboot the Computer before Installing the Beta..It would also be a Good idea to make a Backup of your Boot drive before installing the Beta..as you will have to Uninstall the BETA before Installing any new Upgrade after the BETA Test is Ended..There are 22 Days left on this BETA release..Good Luck..---------------------------------------

With only 22 days left, would you suggest upgrading now or waiting?
    Meaning... Is my computer
currently more at risk using the 7.1.078 version than
it would be if I upgraded to the Beta?

Ordinarily, I wouldn't hesitate to try out the Beta but I am new to "Windows Vista" with the purchase of this new laptop and I don't have the same comfort level with it that I did with XP...
I'm happy that I'm not having more problems judging by other posters and am leary to create any... KWIM?
