Default UPDATE WANTS ME TO UNISTALL CA ANTIVIRUS

    Hi all,
Using free version of Zone Alarm firewall for some years.
Now and then get asked to upgrade to new version of same. now and then get asked to accept an update.
    No problem.

    Question 1
But this time when I accepted the update it tells me to uninstall CA Antivirus! Not snooze it or even disable it or take it our of startup so it is closed down, but uninstall it!!
Why? I am not installing ZA antivrus or anything else, just an apparently "important" update to my firewall.

    Question 2
Now after booting into safe mode to attend to something else - actually didn't attend to it and just rebooted into normal windows - the "true vector" has shut down. I tried the following:

"First, check in the upper right-hand corner of the ZoneAlarm Window. You
should see an All Systems Active message in green letters (to the
    right of the lock).

    [NO SUCH DISPLAY SHOWING ]

If the panel is displaying All systems Active
and ZoneAlarm is still not functioning properly, it is possible that
    some files have become corrupt.

To repair this problem, please follow these steps. Please note that
this will remove your program permission settings (so you may want
to make note of them), but re-establishing them is a simple process.
If any of the steps below does not apply to you, or you are unable
to perform the function listed, please continue to the next step.

    1. Reboot your system into Safe Mode. The method is determined by
your OS but normally either pressing F8 at the beep, or holding the
control key during boot up works. For more information on rebooting
in Safe Mode, click Start, then Help. Click the Search tab, and
    type in SAFE MODE
    2. Open the Internet Logs directory (in 98SE/ME this will be
c:\windows\internet logs, in 2000 it will be c:\winnt\internet logs,
in Windows XP it could be either of these folders). If you need to
keep a copy of old alerts, copy the ZAlog.txt file to another
location first - then delete ALL files in this folder.
    3. Empty your Recycle Bin.
    4. Reboot your system."

Did this exactly but still the same. Any ideas please?

    I having the same problem.
I've been using ZoneAlarm Free as part of the ATT Yahoo security package.
After following the prompt to upgrade I got the same Uninstall CA Antivirus.
I contacted ATT Yahoo support and they sent me back to ZoneAlarm.

I've tried uuninstalling and reinstalling ZoneAlarm
    Free.
Is there still a ZoneAlarm Free that's
compatable with the ATT Yahoo CA Antivirus that
I can download and install? I'm running Windows 2000.
    Thanks, Bruce

What happens if you ignore the alert and just go ahead? Does it work?

    It cancels the install.

I finally gave in and uninstalled CA antivirus.
Then isntalled the (supposed) firewall only instal.
Zonealarm was successfully setup and worked this time as I selected upgrade which restores my settings whereas clean install did not work.

OK so now to install CA antivirus.
Got message: conflict with Zone Alarm please uninstall Zone alarm
Can you imagine how happy I am?

Instead of using the ZA version 7.x just use the ZA version 6.5 Download the 6.5 from here.
I guess the hidden anitivirus files contained in the ZA free version 7.x installater are at fault.

Actually it was the 6.5 version.
It was the same file name exactly as the one you recommended on the other thread, i still had it on my computer.
Makes it all the more mysterious that it claims CA is a problem. I suspect 10's of thousands of people less patient than me are dumping ZoneAlarm as we speak. I doubt I will reinstall it now.
It's a drag as I have been using it for years.
Perhaps a change of management or attitude is responsible.

I remember I once had the ZA Pro 6.1x working with the previous version of CA, but CA has changed the AV scanner since then.

I would try the ZA install in the safe mode (after th CA) and see if that works. If it does not work, then I am out of ideas for helps.

It must be time for a new firewall or antivirus.

I ran into trouble with CA antivirus as well. I tried downloading 6.5.737 from the link in the previous post, but unfortunately the executable was broken (tried downloading it multiple times on two different computers). The length was only 2.4 MB and you get a "The program is not a valid windows executable" when you try to run it.

I found some copies of the executable on the net with a length of 13mb (from filehippo and other places), but two different copies I found were not binary matches and I was afraid that they had been modified with a virus or trojan.

I was able to download 6.5.731 successfully from zone labs by doing "Copy Link Location" on the 6.5.737 link, pasting it into the address bar, and changing the _737_ in the file name to _731_. This version seems to work ok, but it would be nice if zone labs would fix the 6.5.737 executable..

    Thank you for your Feedback..

It is now clear to me that ZA no longer wants to provide ZA free version in the presence of CA antivirus whether as a consequence to code changes in the upgrade or by design in order to eliminate competing Antivirus progs. Contacted ZA help directly and they were sadly no help so now I have no firewall except XP. CA tells me that CA Antivirus will work with AVG firewall. Does anyone know of others?
