Default New Zone Alarm installation help

I've downloaded, installed, and tested the Free version.
I can't find instructions for temporarily disabling ZA
and then re-enabling it, except by turning it off, and then
fully rebooting the system. Straightforward "operating
instructions" including such things should be available....
    somewhere.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Right click the ZA icon in the tray and select "shutdown the Zone Alarm...". To restart the Zone Alarm open the Zone Alarm in the All Programs.

But I am curious as to why the ZA needs to get stopped. Need some help?

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm trying to find out what is preventing my
system from going into hibernation, and am disabling one thing and
another. AdwareAlert is another program under suspicion.

AdwareAlert has a shady or disreputable background. See http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm.
It could be some needed serive in windows is disabled or not enough remaining disk space.

Am not enthusiastic about AdwareAlert but it does do a job.
It finds loads of cookies and alerts me to who buries the
most hooks. As for resources for hibernate, I've been through that.
I have like 25GB of spare room on the drive, and it has worked
before and still works sometimes. I'm suspicious that some of these
'helpful' protection devices, like SpyBot and AdwareAlert, and even
ZoneAlarm, could be standing in the way of stand-by and hibernate.

You could replace it with something like free version of antihook or the free version of SSM or snoopfree. Block the third party cookies inside the browser. Or use some of the suggestions for blocking ads and use the ideas for blocking cookies here,

The TeaTimer of the Spybot maybe interferring.
The ZA should not be interferring. Especially the ZA Free.

I'm having trouble navigating back to this thread.....but I think I'm there now.
Ad-Hock suggested adding IP address to ZA Control Panel....but I couldn't find the
place to add it once I have the Control Panel open. Specific instructions please.
Gosh, ZA is such a great program, I think, along with several other people,
that this preventing Internet access when returning from hibernation *is* a bug
that should be fixed. Look at how many people have the same problem.

My posting just above really refers to Ad-Hock's posting somewhere in the
thread about not being able to access Internet when coming out of hibernation
because ZA blocks it. I wish I could find that thread again, but a search on 'hibernatiion' doesn't lead me to it. Sorry, fellows.

    Hi!
just be sure you add your DNS and DHCP to the firewall trusted zone.
If you are using the latest version, DNS and DHCP are added automatically at install.
AND double check that TRUSTED ZONE in ZA is set to MEDIUM and not HIGH.

    This should solve your problem.

.....and if you don't know how to add your DNS and DHCP to the trusted zone just look to the link below for a detailed guidance:
