Thread: Seccurity Suite wont install.

    Default Seccurity Suite wont install.

My security suite quit updating the spyware and the computer began to get really slow and lock up.
After a lot of work and hours I have finally managed to get the uninstaller to work but now the original disc nor the update download will not go past 24% or the zlquarintine.dll file.
It just hangs and finally shows "not responding".
I must have some setting or file somewhere that is interfering with the installation.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.. J. D.

You need to do a clean uninstall if you haven't, but since your current installation has failed part way through, do the following. When I say System Checkpoint, I mean a Sysem Restore restore point.

    UNINSTALL
    ---------System Checkpoint
    Reboot Safe Mode (without networking)
Create file ZADelete.bat and edit with Notepad
Copy and paste the following lines into ZADelete.bat:
    RMDIR /S /Q "%PROGRAMFILES%\Zone Labs"
    RMDIR /S /Q "%SYSTEMROOT%\Internet Logs"
    RMDIR /S /Q "%SYSTEMROOT%\system32\ZoneLabs"
    ECHO Y | DEL /F "%TEMP%\*"
    ECHO Y | DEL /F "%SYSTEMROOT%\Temp\*"
    ECHO Y | DEL /F "%SYSTEMROOT%\Prefetch\*"
    Double-click ZADelete.bat
    Empty Recycle Bin
Create file ZADelete.reg and edit with Notepad
Copy and paste the following lines into ZADelete.reg:
    REGEDIT4
    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ZAMailSafe]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Zone Labs]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs]
    [-HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Zone Labs]
    Double-click ZADelete.reg
    Reboot Normal Mode

    INSTALL (NORMAL MODE BOOT)
    --------------------------
    System Checkpoint
    Install ZoneAlarm
Anti-virus / Anti-spyware > Update Now (repeat until no further updates)
Run virus/spyware scan: requested by ZoneAlarm (enables automatic signature updates)

    Hammer,
Thanks for replying to my question..
The .bat file ran great, not sure the .reg file did anything.
At least I couldn't see it do anything.
Followed your instructions, except "INSTALL(NORMAL MODE BOOT).
I wasnt sure what that meant.. I did a normal boot, set a checkpoint, and installed ZoneAlarm..
And again it hung up on the zlquarantine.dll file and stopped.. I dont think i got rid of everything because during the set up phase, it still remembers my name.
Thanks for you help.. Any other ideas

Try following these instructions (read them first so you will know if you are familiar with everything).
    http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...message.id=103
If something doesn't make sense, come back here and ask about it before trying to do it.
Once that is done, then try reinstalling ZA from the safe mode in windows.

thank you very much for all the information but again Security Suite will not install past the 24% mark or quarrantine.dll... It just stops installing and shows not responding..
the installation also knows my name on the 2nd or 3rd install page it comes up with my name and asks for my email address.. So I suppose there has to be at least one more file somewhere..

I Followed all the instructions.. i even went into the registry and confirmed the deletes.. tried to install with regular boot and in safe mode too.. There is just no way to get it to install so far... the first initial install went great then it quit getting updates and just went into a loop and ran and ran getting updates.. so I uninstalled and have been trying for a week now to get back on line..
Hope someone can help besides formatting the drive and starting over

    Well, Hello again..

Did all those steps.. never removed so much stuff at one time before.. got everything out, reboot, download a new copy of 7.0, and it stopped again..
This time it stopped at 21%, on
C:\windows\system32\zonelabs\zlquarrantine.dll... same place as always.. and again it knew my name on the email request page..
    Anything else to try?

I did all that before, but will try again to make sure I didnt miss anything..
When I searched for the listed files, I found many in the recycler which i could not delete until I went to recycler and deleted the file.. I think there were 14 vsutil files there.

Let me spend a couple of hours today doing it again to be sure i didnt miss anything... then I will set a check point so I wont have to delete it all again.
