Default cannot install ZA Security Suite update 470

    I've
downloaded the update version 470 several times but I can't run the .exe file - I always get the following alert when I try to run it:

"The file C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\\installer_0326081*****.log could not be opened. Access is denied."
    (is double backslash ok?)

    Having found that I
also can't run previous upgrade .exe's
(462 and older) for the same reason I'm not sure where to go from here.

Have I lost files in a disk cleanup session?
If I uninstall version 462 will I be able to run the 470 .exe file?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    (XP Home / SP2)

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

I cannot do the 470 upgrade either. I get an error message that says it cannot stop the 'true vector' service and for me to run the 'service manager'. But I cannot find a 'service manager'. Even worse whatever part of the upgrade setup that did run turned off Zonealarm and apparently deleted it from the startup menu. Rebooting does not get it back and the ZA subdirectory under program files has no executables.
Do I need to reinstall ZA from scratch?

Hello,Probbaly a problem with your last install related to your indiviual systems only and not a bug in the software.First back up your setting if you wish in the current installed version. Then do the folowing uninstall before installing 7.0.470.000- Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs
    - RIGHT-click on Uninstall Zone Labs Security, then select Properties
    - Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may
    be different on your system): "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" Change it to: "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean (add a space and then the /clean)
    - Click OK to save the new command line.
    - Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall Zone Labs
    Security
    - Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that
    pop up.
    - say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files.
    - Reboot
    - install the latest version

Yeah me too. I installed it as an upgrade, but it messed up my system so bad I had to reboot
in safe mode to uninstall it (It wouldn't let me access the restore utilities). Then I had to restore to a time prior to the install to correct all the other problems it caused. Looks like it corrupted some registry entries too. I'm running XP by the way.

tried WinXP uninstall. ZA is not shown as an installed program. The ZA subd under program files has no executables. So I cannot run the ZAuninstall program. Note that ZA was running file before I tried the 470 update.
Tried deleting the ZA subd and then tried a new ZA install. That DID NOT WORK. Got the 'true vector' error message and the instruction to run the unknown 'service manager'.
So at this point I do not have ZA and cannot install a new copy.
    Any suggestions?

As an added note when I go to administrative services and chose services and find 'true vector' it is shown as stopped, and when I right click I cannot do anything but start it. But when I try to do the new install I get the true vector error message after about 3 minutes.
Is there another way to delete this service?
Also note that I could not do the zauninstall/clean step since the 470 upgrade deleted all the exe files.

I found under 'properties' that I could set truevector to disabled. Did so, rebooted, still disabled, tried the new install, same error.
    Help?

    Hi!

follow closely the instruction below and you will be able to install again.
Don't rush, do every step below.

    01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep

03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
    Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
    (Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
    > ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
    possible.

    14.) Close this window
    15.) Click Start, My Computer
    16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.

21.) Locate and delete the following files in the System32 folder if they are
    present:

    - vsconfig.xml
    - vsxml.dll
    - vsregexp.dll
    - vsdata.dll
    - vsdata95.vxd
    - vsdatant.sys
    - vsmonapi.dll
    - vspubapi.dll
    - vsinit.dll
    - vsutil.dll

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
    registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
    26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Re-download the installer and install again.

    Cheers,

    Default fixed

I found these instructions in a 2004 reply. Did all but the registry editing (saved that for desperate times). Did the trick. The new install worked and the license key was successfully accepted.
I neglected to give that my system is WINXP/SP2, fully up to date, with no add-on runtime stuff and just routine commercial software. Why the 470 upgrade barfed on my PC is a puzzle. If anyone from ZA wants a copy of my directory or registry or anything else to debug this upgrade install I'm willing to provide it. I really like ZA and want it to continue being successful.

    Thanks for your help.
