Default "cant shut down TrueVector Service" error on upgrading

Hi all,
I seem to be having a similar problem to a few other people with regards to the TrueVector error message.
I am trying to upgrade ZASS to the new 70-470 and keep getting the error message above. I went in to - control panel - admin tools - services - and it shows TrueVector Service as stopped and dissabled.Add /
Remove software doesn't show any ZA.I tried installing in Safe Mode, same error.I don't have any other antivirus / spyware / firewall software installed.I'm on XP Pro SP2.I'm not certain what my previous version of ZASS was because it's gone, I have allways done the upgrades as they become available but I had to replace my HDD a few weeks ago and reloaded ZA off my original disc, I
think I upgadedit to the 462?? version.
Any help would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks, Scotty.

I had the same problem with truevector, from the last update. Today I reinstalled totally zonealarm suite, but when installation program requested I chose "clean" installation. I hope this could be useful for your problem.

I don't get that option now.I open the installation package, click run, select the installation directory, insert name and email, accept the license and then I get nothing for about two minutes and then the error message comes up.

"I don't get that option now."
What option?

If you're talking about the /clean install and if you have not deleted ZA in some abnormal way, then the option is there. It's actually a switch you need to put in. Navigate to:
Start > ProgramFiles > ZoneAlarm >uninstall ZA security and stop.
Right click, select Properties on the uninstaller and edit the Target line by adding a space then /clean, so it looks something like this:
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

Go to ZA > Overview >preferences and uncheck the Load at startup checkmark.

Reboot. Run the uninstaller that now has that clean switch and things should work.

http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_1welcome.gif to the Zone Alarm User Forum..well, I can Only speak for myself. I Updated7.0.470.000 without any problems.Do not use the forum to assess if the update is good or not. Users post here only when they have problems and not when everything works well http://forum.zonelabs.org/i/smilies/...iley-happy.gifSoto avoid any problem just do the following:- Download the New installer, and don't use any Download manager or download accellerator..- On your current ZA, Uncheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under ZA Overview --> Preferences tab) (this will shut down TrueVector)- Reboot your PC- Install the new update (upgrade or clean install) and accept the default setting, and turn on Auto-Learn, and when asked what Zone to be in check Trusted Zone not Internet Zone..--------------------------------------------------------

Hi zasuiteuser,
I have no ZA in my start menu / programs list at all. If I
go in to explorer and look in program files I have the following folders / files :
Zonelabs

Zonealarm
- error log and install text doc's and zlavscan.dll

mailfrontier

repair
There are several folders and files in the the mailfrontier folder, one of which is an "unwise" application but I don't think that's what you're talking about, is it?
I have no ZA in the Add / Remove programs listing in control panel either.

Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
26.) Restart the computer.
27.) Re-download the installer and install again.

Cheers,

Ha Ha, thanks Fax, I found your post on an earlyer thread a few hours ago and went through all the steps. Success for getting rid of the old ZA and loading the new version all up and running - yay :-)Only problem so far is I'm running the virus / spy scan (I downloaded signature updates first) and it's been going for 4 hours 20 minutes for 47,000 files (pretty normal I think) but ZA is using nearly 100% of my CPU.Anyway I'll let it finish the scan and see how things are then.
Thanks Heaps for your help Fax, you truly are a Guru!!
Cheers, Scotty.

Hi!thank you for the kind words... You may improve the speed of the scanner setting the priority scan to HIGH (advanced options of the antivirus/antispyware tab - 'scan options')But setting it to HIGH can make your system not responsive...For the 100% CPU usage, it can depend on many different factors. The most common one is conflicts with other tools installed.Unless you have a outdated system with old CPU or less than 512MB available. 100% is not normal if it happensconstantly. To check for incompatible software, you should try to run your system only with ZA and standard MS software/servicesThis way:1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor, and click OK.
8.) Restart your computerHow does it work?
NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
General tab.
Cheers,Fax
