Default Unable to open upgrade file

I have downloaded both the upgrade zlsSetup_70_470_000_en,exe and the clean install zaZA_Setup_en.exe several times.

However I am unable to open any of them, as I get the legend: '[file] is not a valid Win32 application'.

Can anyone help on this? I am running Windows XP with SP2, plus AVG free anti-virus. I have upgraded several times previously without problems.

Jim

Operating System:
Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Hi!that error means the file is incomplete or damaged.Try to download with Interner Explorer and do not use any downloadmanagers.Or you can try also to usethe ZA downloader (around 250K) to download and/or install ZA:http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...zaSetup_en.exeCheers,Fax

Been there, done that.

I have already tried using the downloader, as well as the upgrade, several times, but each time I get the same problem.

Any more suggestions?

Hi!check your system for malware... your OS for corrupted files/registry.For example:Malware: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscannerRegistry/system temp files: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/bui...wnloading-slimTry this. Boot your system selectively and try again:1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
Monitor, and click OK.
8.) Restart your computerNOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
General tab.If all the above fails... I don't have any further suggestion....Cheers,Fax

Thank you for your Feedback..There are dozens of things that could result in a Corrupted or Bad download..Here is a Short List:1.) Zonealarm.com servers comunicate best when downloading with MS IE6 or IE72.) The use of Download Managers/Accerlerators like GetRight used with dialUp connections can result in corrupted files..3.) Surfing the Internet with second browser window or checking Email, or Downloading Games, Music files or other Backgrownd activity while Downloading the ZA Update can result in a corrupted or incomplete files..4.) has it been a long time since you Defragged your Hard drive? How much Free space is available? If the Hard drive is over half full and not Defragged/Optimized in a while, This 44.6MB file could be stored in several Fragments on the Hard drive and if Other Intense HD activity is going on in the back grown durring the ZA upgrade download.. this too could result in a corrupted Download..5.) is your WinXP up to date with Service Pack 2 and Current MS updates..6.) How much Ram Memory available,..7.) do you have any other Security software installed or running in the Backgrown that May conflict with ZA download or Install? ZAFree 7.0.XXX now includes all of the Install Modeles from the Full Security Suite, which are installed but not Activated unless your Choose the Free 15 day Trial option But even if not Activated theses Modules could Conflict with any third party Security Files already installed..8.) as Guru Fax advised have you resently run a Full AV/AS Scan both in normal mode and in Safe mode? Here is Guru Fax's Simple Install Method..to avoid any problem just do the following:- Download the installer- On your current ZA, Uncheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under ZA Overview --> Preferences tab)- Reboot your PC- Install the new update (upgrade or clean install)Please post back with your Progress Report..--------------------------------------------------------

Problem solved - by download and run, file instead of just downloading and then clicking on the file to run it.

I've no idea why - never had this problem before, and it happened whereever I downloaded the file from.
