    Default Is Zonealarm On?

    Hullo All

I recently updated my main PC to ZA Pro version 7.0.470.000 (after switching from modem to wireless.) I have been using it constantly since. However, I have just noticed that while the Status Page reads All Systems Active it also says that 0 intrusions have been been blocked since installation/ 0 of these were highly rated. I can't believe that there have been no attempted intrusions in five days. Forgive me for asking an obvious (beginners) question, but...how can I be sure ZA is actually on/working?

Hi!most likely yes...probably the wireless router/modem is already deflecting all incoming unsolicited calls...To check scan you system with shieldup (www.grc.com), check the IP given by shieldsup with your IP (start --> run--> type cmd --> on new windows type IPCONFIG /ALL)Compare the two IPs are the same? if not, your wireless router is blocking already the incoming calls.Cheers,Fax

Thanks for the advice - I tried it. The two IP's ARE the same - yet Shields Up gave me a perfect security rating. Have I misunderstood something?
    Cheers.

Hi!uuuhm, strange... what is your IP? Something like 192.168.X.X or 10.X.X.X?If you are sure they are the same you could try to reset the ZA settings and test it again. This way:1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after rebootCheers,Fax

Sorry - my mistake - when I follow your instructions to find my IP, IPCONFIG/ALL shows no IP address; it just says

    Windows IP configuration

Host name...........: (which I'm hiding, but its nothing like 192 etc)
    Primary Dns suffix..: (blank)
    Node Type...........: Unknown
    IP routing enabled...: No
    WINS Proxy enabled....: No

Have I done something wrong? How else might I discover the IP address??

    Hi!
this is only the first few lines of the command IPCONFIG, did you added the "/all" (IPCONFIG /all)

    It should give you:

    Physical address:
    DHCP enabled:
    Autoconfiguration...
IP Address <-- THIS ONE is the one to check.
    etc...

    See here for an example:

    HI Fax

Yes, I definitely followed your instructions (they work fine on this laptop); but when I try on the main PC the only information that comes up goes down as far as
    Ethernet Adapater Local Area Connection
    Media state Media disconnected
Description Realtek RTL8139/810 Family Fast Ethernet
    Ethernet NIC/physical address - (shown)

Then the rest of the page is missing, and the next line returns to

    C Documents and Settings/user

    Clearly something's not right?

    Thanks for your patience!

    Hi!
    yes, weird...

You can get your IP from the network icon near the clock right, double click on it and look in one the tabs.

    Hi

In fact, the icon wasn't showing the IP either!!! However, in the end I did track it down elsewhere, among the router settings. The IPs on this laptop and on my main PC are the same, except for the last digit - would that be correct?

More to the point though, they're both different from the IP shown by Shields Up - which suggests that everything is ok after all, despite the anomalies? So looks like I may have had a lot of worry for nothing? Thanks for your time and help.

    You're welcome!
yes, IP is assigned by the router (doing DHCP) and indeed unsolicited incoming call are deflected by the router.
ZA will be there as backup (incoming) but still working on outgoing (program control).

    So, nothing to worry.
