Default Instalation Failure Message Re 'True Vector Service'

Dear Sir /madam, I ask for your HELP -no matter what I do or try I cannot, cannot, cannot get the Zone Alarm program itself to re-install /update /upgrade at all; I have uninstalled ALL Programs from The Zone Alarm Stable, and have accessed my 'RegEdit Files' to try and DELETE each, and every occurrence of Zone Alarms STILL 'hidden away' within My RegEdit Files, BUT they will neither delete, or allow me access, or delete ANY of these 'danglers' STILL within My RegEdit Files -each time I do try to install Zone Alarm, I am faced with the following failure message, this I might first appeared when I was 'trying' to upload your last program upgrade, and update -previously to this I have never, not ever had absolutely any problems, issues, or instability at all with ANY of The Zone Alarm Stable of Excelence Programs!

    Failure Message:
Setup is unable to shut down True Vector Service.
Install cannot continue without shutting down True Vector Service.
Please use the Service Manager to shut down the True Vector Service, and then restart the installer program.

Sir I have tried /attempted to do all most everything that I do know works /has worked to try to gain access this True Vector Service, first in my MSCONFIG Settings, I have also searched My PC for 'other occurrances' of this True Vector Service, but I cannot, cannot find ANY other than those within My MSCONFIG, and also RegEdit Files, the instruction advises myself to seek The True Vector Service via my Service Manager?
Sorry, but I am not familiar at all with the term Service Manager, what I 'thought' it referred to -Windows Task Manager, did not give me any indications at all of True Vector Service being either named, and or running -help?

Sir, if you could please advise myself where this Service Manager is located, and also as to What I Must Do to 'Turn Off' The True Vector
Service, so that I can /will be able to install, set-up, and give My PC 110% protection, as right now I am having to be 'wholly reliant upon the MS Win XP Fire Wall -that I believe IS as much use as 'chocolate candles'!!

Thank you for your on going support, and kind help -thank you.

    Regards,
    David Williams

Turn on the Administrative tools on your Programs file.
To do this right click the task bar, select Properties, go to Start Menu, and click on Customize, the dialog box that opens will have Adminstrative tools listed in it, select that you want it in the programs file. CLick OK, then OK again.
    Go to
your start button and look under the Programs, you should see the Admistrative tools folder, go to the folder and look for Services.
    A dialog box (Service Manager)
opens with all the sevices running on your system, look for the True Vector Service and right click it select stop.

Dear All, have tried all as advised, and more than the once too but still will not install /set-up at all, just keeps going until it reaches the point of set-up /instalation finalisation /registration before 'falling over' -yet again, with the self same failure ,essage re The True Vector Service.
After 'some confusion' upon what I myself was trying to achieve, eventually 'logic kicked in' and I started back tracking, and doing some of the 'RTFS' -ie Read The F...... Screen' Bit!!
Ultimately My True Vector Service IS Not Running /Functional at all, is this what IS that of
    the real problem I ask?
True Vector Service -currect status /indications are as follows:Available as an option -In Black /Start.ALL other options -In Grey /NOT available
    Properties settings:
General Service name -vsmonDisplay Name -True vector internet monitorDescription -Monitors internet access traffic, and generates allerts for disallowed accessPath to execute -C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exe -serviceStart-up type -AutomaticService status -StoppedStart parameters -None displayed /directed

Next problem:When I do try to start up The True Vector Service I get yet another 'failure message'??
Could not start The True Vector Internet Service on Local Computer.
Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
    Confused?
Gas oven, and with the door half closed, with my head inside comes to mind right now??
Please no matter what I do, try, and do again I just cannot, cannot, cannot get the program to install, and set up fully at all, just seems to 'fall over' right at the very last minute no matter what I am doing /trying.
From what I myself can see /take note of, my True Vector Service is just NOT running at all, and is most proberbly NOT functioning /set up correctly itself at all, in so possibly compounding the problems as are being encounted; possibly what IT is really trying to tell me is that 'IT' cannot gain any form of control of The True Vector Service at all, and THIS is it's real problem??
As stated, I have tried to start up The True Vector Service myself /manually, to absolutely No Avail -please, please advise as to what I must try todo next to resolve the issue of my True Vector Service being inoperative, and then being able to install, and set up Zone Alarm.
What IS bugging myself right now is that I have never, not ever had ANY issues /problems with Zone Alarm previously at all, every instalation, and set up has gone with absolutely zero issues /problems, not ever, and this IS causing me much constination, why now?
Just makes No sense to myself at all -please do if at all possible, do please help me thank you?
    Kind regards,David Williams

Default Re: Instalation Failure Message Re 'True Vector Service'

http://s118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_1welcome.gif to the Zone Alarm User Forum..It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..
1.) TrueVector (vsmon.exe) is the Main guts of ZoneAlarm Firewall protection, that is the first thing to start when you boot up your computer and the last thing to shut down when you shut down your computer in order to insure that your computer is always protected..2.) to make sure that a Hacker or Virus that has accidentally infected you computer when you Click on an Email Attachment, or Click on some Pop-up on a web-site that offers a Free Laptop or whatever and in the background also trancefers a Trojan or keyloger to your computer, becuse you have bypassed that ZA Alert pop-up or given permision to a new Game or download to open a port to the internet that Hackers can access, you have over ridden some of the protection that ZA provides. that is why TrueVector is so hard to Shut down..3.) ZoneAlarm provides a method to properly shut down trueVector, before Uninstalling ZoneAlarm, or Upgrading Zonealar.. Look in ZA Menu Overview/Preferences and Uncheck "Load ZoneAlarm on Startup." then Reboot your Computer to remove TrueVector from Memory..Probably the best is to have a full manual remove of ZASS and reinstall.

Please note that ZASS does not always play nice with many security tools. For example, ad-aware, spybotS&D, spyware doctor, spysweeper. For sure it cannot be installed if you have still another antivirus software or firewall installed or active.

To troubleshoot ZASS issue is highly recommended to remove all the above and install back (if you really need to) after your ZASS works as it should. If you have not installed any of the above ensure that NO left overs are in the system (they can conflict).

First re-download the latest ZASS version here:
    For XP http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.htmlFor Vista http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...ory_vista.html

Then : Remove your current ZASS from the control panel --> uninstall a program

Then follow the steps below to ensure NO ZA left over are on your system before reinstalling
The instruction are for XP, they are basically the same for VISTA (e.g. start --> VISTA search box --> and write the command)

    01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
    Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
06.) Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
07.) Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
08.) Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
    (Recommended)"
09.) Choose Yes to the warning
    10.) Click OK
    11.) Double click C:

Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.

12.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
13.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -
    > ZoneAlarm folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as
    possible
    .

    14.) Close this window
    15.) Click Start, My Computer
    16.) Double Click the C:
17.) Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
18.) Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
19.) Double Click the System32 Folder
20.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs
folder and delete out as many of the files listed here as possible.

    - vswmi.dll
    - zlcommdb.dll
    - zlcomm.dll
    - z llictbl.dat

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsmon
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\vsdatant

*Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause
serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the
need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these
deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
    registry.

For information about how to edit the registry in Windows, from your
desktop, click Start >> Run >> and type regedit. Click on Help >> Help
Topics. Under the Contents tab, click Change Keys and Values (this may
be found under the How to... section).

Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
You can find this in the same section of the Help files.

25.) Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
    26.) Restart the computer.
    27.) Install back..
